2 out of 5 eggs Terrible product 12/28/2014

This review is from: Rosewill RCX-Z1 Long life ball bearing for over 45,000/hrs CPU Cooler

Pros: There are none, except the 92mm fan is effective and can be repurposed

Cons: Heatsink itself is not effective on anything more than a 65W or lower processor. The fan controller is nearly useless.

Antec Sonata Proto Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

5 out of 5 eggs Eggcellent Case, but... 06/17/2014

This review is from: Antec Sonata Proto Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: There is absolutely nothing that I do not like about the case, with one minor note. The build quality is second to none. The drive trays are amazing.

This is an "adult" case without all the flashing lights that scream 12-year old.

Cons: This case has limited cooling. Stock there is only a single 120mm fan at the rear, and an internal (useless) mount for a second 120mm fan. To achieve somewhat adequate cooling, I replaced the Antec 120mm fan, with a much thicker (38mm vs 25mm), higher flow fan. This helped. Ultimately, I had to modify the case to achieve the desired results.

Other Thoughts: First off, I am not a gamer, but use my computer for intensive graphic and video editing. Thus, the cooling requirements can be high due to the necessary hardware. To make the case flow properly, I cut a 120mm fan opening in the top, and also a 120mm fan opening on the door. In addition, I directly ventilated the CPU (no provision for liquid cooling) with a snorkel from another case, 92mm fan, and opening in door to mount such.

The result: Even under heavy use (all 8 cores, overclocked to 3.9ghz at 100% use) running for hours encoding video, interior case temperatures rose 3c above ambient, while CPU temperature rose to only 48c. Once task was complete, interior temperature was within 2c above ambient, and CPU temp 1c higher than interior.
