macally PHR-S250U3B Aluminum 2.5
  • Owned For: less than 1 day

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Plugged it into a Mac, then into a PC. Used all external interfaces. No computer recognized the drive I had put into this enclosure. I'm sure I just got a defective unit, but the fact that that can happen at all is disappointing.

Other Thoughts: This thing was terrible for me. Buy this and you're playing a lottery.

G-Technology G-DRIVE 500GB 2.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: This hard drive is future proofed by USB 3 and compatible with all my old firewire gear. It's plug and play, so it's easy to use, and I can take my work with me everywhere now. It's great because I no longer have to be paranoid about losing my main drives in a fire.

Cons: The firewire 800 cable will literally just fall out of the computer it's plugged into, for like no reason.

Rocstor 2TB USB 3.0 / Firewire800 / eSATA 3.5
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

Pros: • Can handle daily commutes
• Uses a regular old AWG power cable
• Comes with a nifty neoprene case

Cons: • AWG power cable is hard to unplug with one hand

Other Thoughts: I bought one of these, when it had no reviews, and a drive with the exact same specs from LaCie. They both have worked flawlessly, and this one came with a useful case! I like it.
