Pros: I've been using this as my backup hard drive and it's served me well until recently when it all of a sudden started to fail.
Cons: Would have liked it to last longer, but considering it's warrantied for 3 years and I've long since filled it up, I guess I can't complain too much. I do recall hearing the occasional clicking noise for the past couple years which always scared me that the drive was dying. Whether this is related to my drive's actual death I don't know.
Other Thoughts: I can still get it to read data off the disk if I rotate it so that the front of the drive points downwards. I'm guessing maybe this helps the head move out onto the platters?READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: It appears to work as advertised. I have no major qualms with the actual product.
Cons: The white light on the front is very bright, but it's easy to fix with by covering it up with a bunch of layers of tape.
The reason I gave a very low score is that Icy Dock is horrible about rebates. You have 15 days from when you order the product to mail in the rebate. Factor in the amount of time it takes to ship out the product and there's not much time left. What makes me angry with Icy Dock is that they will blatantly cheat you out of the rebate even if you got it postmarked within the 15 day period. I don't know if they used the received by date instead of the postmark date or whether they just let the rebate sit in a bin for an extra week and then claim it's too late, but they are very bad at honoring rebates. So, I highly recommend you ignore the rebate when factoring in the price of this product. Considering their business practices, I hope my enclosure won't need warranty service from them in the future...
