BUFFALO AirStation AC1300 / N900 Gigabit Dual Band Wireless Router - WZR-D1800H

4 out of 5 eggs Better than my old Trendnet 09/21/2012

This review is from: BUFFALO AirStation AC1300 / N900 Gigabit Dual Band Wireless Router - WZR-D1800H

Pros: I am getting higher N speeds than I have gotten from previous devices. I have two of these (300 year old house with lots of stone inside) in opposite corners of the house and they cover almost everywhere I can go inside. I am running them in AP mode.

Cons: UI is confusing at best and an active hindrance at worst. Having to setup two SSIDs and associated configs for the dual radios is nonsense. There has to be an easier interface than this. I had to reset and reconfigure the router three times before I got it the way I wanted.

Other Thoughts: I have found that orientation of the router matters quite a bit, which makes me think that the antennae may not be as omnidirectional as I would assume.

Another oddity is that switching from router to AP mode (and back) seemed to erase the wireless config completely. As the wireless config has little to nothing to do with the router/AP function, I was surprised by that quirk.

5 out of 5 eggs Good on Q6600 03/08/2012

This review is from: ZALMAN CNPS10X FLEX CPU Cooler

Pros: Ran this for a couple days straight on 100% CPU doing video encoding without any problems. No direct fan, just a case fan and my PC is quieter than ever.

Cons: Was a bit fussy getting attached to motherboard. I had to use washers to get a snug fit I was comfortable with, but that is me being particular rather than a knock on the product.

G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Memory for Apple Model FA-8500CL7D-8GBSQ

  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: One of the easiest RAM upgrades I have ever done. This is both a testament to the Mini's design as well as the RAM cert process.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: running 10.6.8 prior to installing RAM. Nothing on the OS side needed to make it work.
