Pros: Windows loads rather fast after getting "trained"
Frequently used applications load much faster.
Inexpensive solution to get both (speed and capacity)
Cons: It's not great for massive file transfer.
It can be pain if you have "dual-boot" (two or more OSes on the same laptop).
Other Thoughts: Actually, I have two drives installed on two laptops. The firmware records the application accessed the platter and cached them onto flash partition which helps speeding up. I have it installed on Toshiba laptop which runs Windows 7. The difference is obvious after few times of startup/shutdown. Firefox loads instantly because I ofter use it.
However, if you have dual-boot (two OSes installed), you won't get the benefit from it. After Installed Server 2008 (for school) on same Toshiba laptop, loading speed of Windows 7 becomes painfully slow after I used Server 2008 few time, so this drive is not recommended for those who has two or OSes installed on the same computer. If you want to have equal performance on both platforms, you need a full SSD.
Massive file transfer isn't faster than other 5400RPM HDD because flash partition isn't utilized.
Regardless of these caveats, this hybrid is still a good solution for those want inexpensive solution of the laptop.
Pros: A lot of value-add functions (PPTP VPN, FTP, AiCloud, NAS, Wake on LAN)
FTP account management (can add multiple user accounts)
Gigabit WAN and LAN ports
Can add fallback WAN through USB in case main WAN goes down
Cons: A bit weak 5GHz reception
Other Thoughts: It has been served as FTP/NAS as well as Wireless AP due to local IP setup problem (I don't use 192.168.1.x), but recent ROM update fixed that.
After Netgear WNDR3700V3 router has gone down, I decided to use it as main router, and lo and behold, even after nearly 2 years of usage, it is strong and stable.
With note3 and Optimum (105/35), 2.4GHz can get up to 40Mbps and 5GHz can get double.
Pros: massive 1TB capacity
fast when the app is "cached" into NAND
Cons: wish NAND is not limited to 8GB
the platter speed is still 5400RPM (same speed as other 5400RPM HDD if you transfer huge files
Other Thoughts: Bought the drive from Newegg because I get a nice discount and give it a try. First time booting the speed has no difference, but after a couple of times of shutdown/startup, the speed of startup gets significantly faster, so the hard drive is constantly learning your usage habit, and put the most frequent using applications to NAND, so you need to "train" the hard drive to open and close the applications you want to run on NAND. After the training, FireFox starts immediately.
But I found the speed isn't faster than other 5400RPM hard drive when I transfer around 200GB stuff from old hard drive.
The bottom line is, the internal NAND helps starting up as well as applications you often use, but don't expect any miracle for massive file transfer.
Some manufacturers place restrictions on how details of their products may be communicated.
