ASUS ROG G75VX 17.3
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: I AM UPDATING MY REVIEW. The review has been updated for my time of ownership has increased. I feel as though it's necessary to do another review. Asterisks will be placed upon new or modified material.

-Able to play every game I throw at it and has had no problems keeping up. The 670mx makes short work of anything I toss at it, same with the i7 processor. *670mx is still making short work of every single game I've thrown at it, not even overclocked.

-1TB of storage along with a 1080p screen? Love it.

-Pleased with all of that.

-Computer arrived in what looked like nearly brand new condition.

-Keyboard feels nice to use.

-Ports work, all very speedy in general

-Touchpad is fairly nice to use.

-Computer arrived ahead of schedule.

*- Accepts a second hard drive. Using a SSD, the computer is faster than all can be.

Cons: -The screen itself is either poor quality or mine is just poor. I have black lines that run through the screen whenever I look at something dark in contrast. Upon a quick internet search, this seems to be a common problem among this series. *I have, however, fixed this problem through various tinkering in the Nvidia settings. Do feel free to ask a question as to how, if you have this issue as well.

-Backlight keys refuse to work, no matter how much tinkering I do with uninstalling and reinstalling things. I believe that it's at the hardware level right now. This seems to be less common. *Confirmed to be at the hardware level by Geek Squad.

-Windows 8 came inactivated, but after a short, automated call to Microsoft, that was fixed. Still disturbingly arrogant to ship something out like that.

*-The Windows 8 key that came included on the laptop was actually invalided by Microsoft themselves, meaning that I no longer have a legitimate copy of WIndows 8 until I buy a new one. This key was OEM, meaning that it came straight from ASUS themselves. ASUS has yet to attempt to fix this without claiming that I need to send the product back.

-No optimous technology.

-Heavy weight, but that's mainly for fans. *10lbs gets extremely heavy in the lap after a while.

-Arrived in a box with little to no lining to keep it from getting damaged in transit.

-Loads of bloatware that's NECESSARY to keep the computer running properly. *The bloatware isn't necessary to keep the computer running, but to keep the computer running nicely.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm pleased with the performance of the computer, but extremely displeased with the quality and condition that it arrived in. I do understand the refurbished does not mean new, but it means that it should not have problems with the screen, the keyboard, the operating system, and so on.

If the actual problems (screen, keyboard, etc) did not exist, I would change my rating in a heartbeat (up to around 4 or 5 eggs), however, the G75VX series seems to be plagued with these issues. and (usually) go unresolved from a single RMA. I have these issues and the fact that I'm probably going to have to RMA is an extreme turn away. *The fact that my Windows 8 key is also deactivated is extremely mind boggling as well, especially due to the fact that ASUS refuses to reissue a new one, and Microsoft refuses to tell me why the OEM key of a major company has been blocked.

I would recommend this product, but be cautious. You don't know the real condition until you notice the subtle things.
