HP JE006A#ABA Managed V1910-24G Gigabit Ethernet Switch
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs Well maybe... 02/10/2014

This review is from: HP JE006A#ABA Managed V1910-24G Gigabit Ethernet Switch

Pros: Standard "web-managed" switch. Standard options. Works as described. Regular "Web" or "Smart" management features - VLANs, etc.

Cons: -NOT- a true L2 "Managed" switch as described in the heading.

Other Thoughts: HP, but -not- a ProCurve which is a different class of switch. (aka Cisco (by Linksys) as opposed to a true Cisco)

Western Digital Blue WD10EALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Nada

Cons: Received two and both were DOA. Both locked up during Windows install then started throwing SMART errors in two different systems.

Other Thoughts: Must be a bad batch out there. I'm going back to the Black series in the future.

Western Digital Blue WD10EALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 day to 1 week

Pros: Zero

Cons: Received two of these for two different system builds. In both cases, Windows either locked up during the install or immediately started reported errors after the install completed. Drives then started throwing SMART errors refererencing bad sectors and fail WD diags.

Seems to be a bad batch floating around.

Other Thoughts: I exclusively use WD drives in my builds. After 25 years in the business, I've found them to be more reliable than Seagate but each has their own occasional wicked stepchild appear occasionally. This appears to be WD's latest problem child.

I find it telling that WD's RMA process shows the availability of a replacement drive to be 'limited' which seems strange for a current product unless they are seeing an abnormal number of returns. I'm hoping to be lucky enough that they run out of replacement drives and send me a Black model instead.
