Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 69W BX80637E31230V2 Server Processor

Pros: *GREAT* value when compared to desktop processors (e.g. i7-3770K). Mostly got it for the ECC compatibility and hyperthreading. Needed ECC for my server. Got a lot of power along with it!

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: I am using this processor with a Supermicro X9SCL-F-O to host a ESXi 6 server and it is simply wicked. My Windows 8.1 development environment VM scored over 10,000 with 4 cores and 8GB ram allocated to it -- almost as high as my "bare metal" desktop with an i5-3570K and 8GB ram (which scored 11,500). Not bad for a VM, and certainly not bad for using only HALF my server's resources!

OCZ ARC 100 ARC100-25SAT3-120G 2.5

Pros: Really fast. Seemed reliable. No problems until one day it just went kaput.

Cons: Just stopped working one day. Had a Hackintosh build on it using clover for my EFI bootloader, was like pulling teeth to get it working with my Intel DH67GD. Had a SuperDuper backup to an HDD which worked, but the EFI/bootloader didn't copy. Back to square one booting from a USB drive again. ARGH! SO mad...

Other Thoughts: Never owned an SSD other than Intel until this. Have 2x 710s and 2x X25-Ms. None of them have experienced any issues and they're OLD. Dying after 177 days?? Come OCZ!

Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EADS 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5

Pros: These drives have been serving me well since 2010. They are flawlessly running in a RAID 0+1 Ext array with 4k block allocation (look up "advanced format" for more info about this block size)

Cons: May not be suitable for RAID enclosures that do not allow block size configuration.

Other Thoughts: I thought these drives were horrible when I put them in. MediaSonic RAID 5 enclosure for a Mac mini. Two of them bit the dust simultaneously when I tried to run disk repair and I lost a ton of data.

I didn't want this to happen again after the RMA, so I did my research- turns out they are no good in most standalone arrays, which use smaller block sizes by default and generally can not be configured for advanced format drives.

Once the replacements arrived in 2011 I put them in a RAID 0+1 configuration using Ubuntu server 12.04 LTS at a 4k block size using Ext4 fs and they've been humming along ever since.
