Zotac ZBOXNANO-AD10-U AMD A50M (Hudson M1) 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM AMD Radeon HD 6310 Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: Price. VERY SMALL. Easy to upgrade. As Fast as you want. Good Port selection. GREAT HTPC. Good enough for Primary PC. You can use old components, but for raw speed, get a small SSD (saw 32GB on newegg for $45 this week) for OS and external HD or network HD for storage for a cheap, lightning fast rig.

Other Thoughts: HD install errors on XP, 2k Pro, 7 Ultimate no matter WHAT I did. I'm very tech savvy and tested multiple slipstreamed OS installs, multiple HD and RAM to make sure it wasn't me. Hate using ANY tech support but my only alternative was to RMA.

It turns out you may have problems installing if ANYTHING is plugged into USB 3.0 ports. Since they can double as USB 2.0 in most cases i didn't think anything of it, and wanted to used the two USB 2.0 ports to power my bus-powered DVD drive, leaving mouse and keyboard in the USB 3.0 Ports (knowing they wouldn't have 3.0 speed without drivers).

long story short, using USB 3.0 gave me BSOD and had me ready to smash my machine. Leave those ports empty during install if you are having problems installing.

It is INEXCUSABLE that this information is not somewhere in the manual. For this frustration alone, i take 1 egg away. I don't want anyone to rage like i was going to thinking they got a b mad machine.

Foxconn nT435H-0h0w-B-A-NA Intel NM10 1 x 204Pin SO-DIMM Intel GMA 3150 Black Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: VERY small. Attractive. Very Quick with XP, Ubuntu.

Cons: Foxconn website is slow as others have said. Manual very basic.
Doesn't output HD, but if you were expecting that its your own dumb fault because they told you.

Other Thoughts: I only have laptops in my house. My logic is that all computers get outdated, but relative portability is always useful. I had some extra components lying around. This came on sale for $89. Threw my components in, INSTANT stable system. This is more than capable a primary computer for writing documents, browsing web, veiwing youtube, myspace, itunes, light gaming. Basically the only things 75% of computer users do. Now looking at the foxconn rig that looks like this but DOES do HD. Foxconn just found themselves a new customer.

WD My Book Studio 750GB 3.5
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

Pros: Reliable. I do a ton of large and small file writes (laptop backups, video editing). Has been rock solid. I also use it as a network drive when i'm between video projects. Firewire 800 is FAST. Firewire and eSATA are much better than USB 1, 2 OR 3.

Cons: none for me.
