5 out of 5 eggs For me, just works 10/29/2015

This review is from: D-Link GO-SW-5G Unmanaged Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch

Pros: Needed this because my Airport router only has 3 ethernet ports but otherwise runs flawlessly. Used this to add additional ports. Other than plugging it in correctly, there was no setup. Everything was recognized automatically. Gigabit speed.Cheap. Doesn't get to hot. Small. Pretty sure it doesn't use much power.

So for me, pure win for a few months now.

Cons: it doesn't make me cookies?

Pros: Price. VERY SMALL. Easy to upgrade. As Fast as you want. Good Port selection. GREAT HTPC. Good enough for Primary PC. You can use old components, but for raw speed, get a small SSD (saw 32GB on newegg for $45 this week) for OS and external HD or network HD for storage for a cheap, lightning fast rig.

Other Thoughts: HD install errors on XP, 2k Pro, 7 Ultimate no matter WHAT I did. I'm very tech savvy and tested multiple slipstreamed OS installs, multiple HD and RAM to make sure it wasn't me. Hate using ANY tech support but my only alternative was to RMA.

It turns out you may have problems installing if ANYTHING is plugged into USB 3.0 ports. Since they can double as USB 2.0 in most cases i didn't think anything of it, and wanted to used the two USB 2.0 ports to power my bus-powered DVD drive, leaving mouse and keyboard in the USB 3.0 Ports (knowing they wouldn't have 3.0 speed without drivers).

long story short, using USB 3.0 gave me BSOD and had me ready to smash my machine. Leave those ports empty during install if you are having problems installing.

It is INEXCUSABLE that this information is not somewhere in the manual. For this frustration alone, i take 1 egg away. I don't want anyone to rage like i was going to thinking they got a b mad machine.
