Great monitor... mostly

LG 31MU97-B Black 31" Digital Cinema 4K 4096 x 2160 IPS LED Monitor 17:9 10-Bit Color Depth Dual Color Space with AdobeRGB 99.5%, VESA Mountable USB 3.0 HDMI DisplayPort Headphone Out
LG 31MU97-B Black 31" Digital Cinema 4K 4096 x 2160 IPS LED Monitor 17:9 10-Bit Color Depth Dual Color Space with AdobeRGB 99.5%, VESA Mountable USB 3.0 HDMI DisplayPort Headphone Out

Pros: A true cinema 4k monitor at 60Hz! Has plenty of connectivity options, supports scaling, and after calibration I can hit 100% of the AdobeRGB gamut according to the Sypder Elite. My photos never looked so good

Cons: Quality control on these is a little... iffy. The one I got sometimes has startup issues. It also makes a popping noise when it comes out of standby. It's being serviced to replace the mainboard, but since this is a niche product, it's taking longer than I would like. I get the feeling LG released this and then kinda forgot about it (maybe on purpose). Also, the menu system is not the most elegant. It takes way too many motions to perform common tasks. I wish LG stuck with their old multiple-button functionality.

Overall Review: To the person with a supposed high tech level who couldn't get it to work above 1080p@60Hz... you're doing it wrong. You need to be using newer hardware that supports displayport 1.2, Older computers (especially Apple ones) have problems getting the full resolution. I'm using a GTX980 with absolutely no problems. Also, your cable starts to matter. If you need longer than the cable it gives you, you MUST buy high-quality cables; you're pushing the boundaries of bandwidth at 4096x2160@60Hz. I have a couple cables that refuse to sync at that resolution because they're small gauge. I'd post a picture if I could.

Most Critical Review

Decent, but warranty is not 3 years

Hanns-G 17" Active Matrix, TFT LCD WXGA+ LCD Monitor 8 ms 1440 x 900 D-Sub, DVI-D HW-173DBB
Hanns-G 17" Active Matrix, TFT LCD WXGA+ LCD Monitor 8 ms 1440 x 900 D-Sub, DVI-D HW-173DBB

Pros: Inexpensive, decent quality, arrived with no dead pixels. Worked great for 2 years.

Cons: Almost 2 years to the day the panel completely died. It goes into an endless reset cycle without ever displaying anything. Called up Hanns-G and they told me that it was a panel defect, and it would cost $75 + shipping to repair. From their warranty web page: "The warranty hereof shall mean a period of 3 years parts and labor, 1 Year LCD..." So apparently the LCD isn't a part, and their 3-year warranty doesn't apply.

Overall Review: You get what you pay for, I guess. There are other brands that offer true 3-year warranties on their products and don't cost too much more. I would recommend going with them if you value warranties. Newegg needs to update their information on the warranty to reflect this.

Abysmal Access Point

NETGEAR WN802T Rangemax Next Wireless Access Point
NETGEAR WN802T Rangemax Next Wireless Access Point

Pros: Works well when it works. Allowed me to use my Wii and laptop online.

Cons: These access points die like clockwork. After 6 months, I had it replaced. Now, 6 months later (and 12 days out of warranty), it dies again. The power light comes on but nothing else. I wouldn't recommend this unless you like replacing it in a year. The PS3 also refuses to stay connected, no matter what channel or security setting used.

Overall Review: Technical support doesn't want to do anything about these, even though this is a recurring failure (look at netgear's forums). It's a shame Cisco doesn't do anything about the home line of Netgear's equipment. Tech support says it was re-released, so this problem may be fixed. I still wouldn't trust it.
