upgrade for an older system

MSI GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 Video Card N650Ti-1GD5/OCV4
MSI GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 Video Card N650Ti-1GD5/OCV4

Pros: AMD Athlon II 445 triple core, w/4gb ram, Asus m4a785td-m evo motherboard, Corsair CX400w PSU. Went from AMD HD5450 to this. A game like Sleeping Dogs is now playable at 1080p medium settings. This card runs at 63C under load, but I have another card right next to it blocking the fan. It's quiet most times, under load there is a whir noise from the fan but it's not really very loud, my case fans are louder. I'm shocked at how well games run now, I knew the 5450 wasn't a gaming card but still...

Cons: You'll see 60fps average from 720p on highest settings, as you get closer to 1080 you'll need to drop settings or live with lower fps in newer games. 1gb of memory on a 128 bit bus means this card can't deal with settings like AA at 1080p, if that's what you're after. It does take up two slots so be aware you may need to move things around depending on how many expansion slots you're using.

Overall Review: The only games that struggle are games that struggle on all GPUs, like the Metro series. As long as you're willing to experiment with settings and resolution, this card makes all games playable and look pretty good on an older system.

There's a lot to like here

EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 SC GAMING, 03G-P4-6153-KR, 3GB GDDR5, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan)
EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 SC GAMING, 03G-P4-6153-KR, 3GB GDDR5, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan)

Pros: This card is very quiet, even under full 100% GPU usage. For an entry level gaming card, 1080p game performance over a wide range of games is very good. I paired it with an i5 2400 Dell Optiplex 790 MT in legacy bios mode and it installed with zero problem. Does not require a pci-ex power connector, so it'll work with just about anything. The extra gig of memory is useful in games which detect you vram and lock out certain settings if you only have 2gb. At same price for 2gb 1050 this is a no brainer choice.

Cons: In certain games, the 96 bit memory bus is less desirable than the 128 bit 2gb 1050 and leads to slightly lower performance. The 3gb vram doesn't really add to the card's performance, so don't expect that. A 1050 is still a 1050. If you want to play Monster Hunter World at 1080p high settings at 60fps, you need a 1060.

Overall Review: If you're looking to play Fortnite, GTA V, and other games at 1080p and you're on a budget, this is the card for you. You might have to tinker with the game settings in the more demanding games, but the game will run smooth enough to enjoy.

Makes a big difference

KAI AB5062 Pure Komachi 2 Bread Knife 8" Orange
KAI AB5062 Pure Komachi 2 Bread Knife 8" Orange

Pros: Sharp, nice sized grip. Large blade and easy to clean, very easy to clean.

Cons: It's orange. I get the whole 'color code so you don't cross contaminate' thing...but it's orange! I'm thinking of modding mine to another color.

Overall Review: I'm baking lots of no knead artisan bread these days. Using this bread knife DOES make a difference over using utility knives, which I had been using before I got this. It slices through the crust and crumb with no problem, even when I bake especially crusty bread. It's also very good at slicing the dough right before you put it in the oven, without dragging the dough out of shape.

powers triple core system

CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 CMPSU-430CX 430W ATX12V Active PFC Power Supply
CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 CMPSU-430CX 430W ATX12V Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: AMD X3 445 with ATI 5450 videocard runs just fine with this powersupply. The construction is very nice, with sleeving on all the cables. It runs very, very quietly. Plenty of cables and they are all of decent length. In short, it is well up to the task it was created for- powering basic systems.

Cons: None, for a budget power supply(which this is, Corsair name or not), it does the job. 28 amps on the 12v output is enough, if you need more then you shouldn't be looking at budget power supplies to begin with.

Overall Review: This is a Channel Well unit internally, not Seasonic like the previous budget Corsair. However, relative to other power supply manufacturers in this class, Channel Well is major step up. If you can get it on sale and with rebate as I did, well it can't be beat.

it works with no issues

Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3N9/2G
Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3N9/2G

Pros: Installed into an Asus 785 evo-m, detected the proper settings immediately. Since then, gaming and other stress tests(Prime95, Memtest, etc) show no problems. That's what I like- components that just work without making you fiddle with things. I have not overclocked yet, so no comment on that kind of performance.

Cons: None really, these sticks are not fancy looking, so if you like to show off your computer's innards these aren't for you.

Overall Review: I'm using these in an AMD X3 445 setup, everything went together smooth and is working perfectly stable so far.

solid performance

AMD Athlon II X3 445 - Athlon II X3 Rana Triple-Core 3.1 GHz Socket AM3 95W Desktop Processor - ADX445WFGMBOX
AMD Athlon II X3 445 - Athlon II X3 Rana Triple-Core 3.1 GHz Socket AM3 95W Desktop Processor - ADX445WFGMBOX

Pros: I got a NADHC marked CPU- four cores unlocked but no L3. I'm pretty happy with triple core performance. Transcoding video, which used to take me forever on my old single core, is now a piece of cake. Gaming performance is awesome. Mine runs a bit hot, I can get to 54C if I run Prime95 for a long time(triple core mode). I need to lap my third party tower cooler before I can use it to push things further.

Cons: The included heatsink/fan is indeed ridiculously small. RIDICULOUSLY SMALL I just wanted to stress that.

Overall Review: The computer, while not obviously faster all the time in any one way, is noticeably snappier in multitasking. I run dual monitors and have multiple apps open and running, and it's amazing how much more responsive it is with multi-core. I didn't realize how much time I was wasting waiting for the computer to process my inputs till now.
