This review is from: Team Color Turn 8GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (Purple) Model TG008GE902V3
Pros: Measured average raw read and write speeds using dd on Linux:
- USB SS raw reads average 53.4 MB/s; raw writes avg 17.3 MB/s (better than claimed :) with 128-KiB blocks
- USB HS raw reads average 32.5 MB/s; raw writes avg 17.3 MB/s with 128-KiB blocks
Using small block sizes (512 or 1024 B), raw write performance was much lower. presumably due to inefficient erase/re-writes of partial nand flash blocks. I didn't test any sizes between 1and 128 KiB, figuring that it was most likely large-page nand.
Formatted with xfs, 128-KiB stripe size: No loss in average sustained file read and write speed, as compared to raw.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Tested on HP EliteBook 8540w, running Fedora 14 32-bit, kernel 220.127.116.11-83.fc14.i686.PAE
SS tested on USB 3.0 port (xhci).
HS tested on USB 2.0 port (ehci).
I had no previous experience with this brand, so I was not sure what to expect. So far so good! :)
I wish manufacturers would be clear about the mapping of "external" (user-level) blocks to internal (flash) blocks, so that users might have an idea from the start what sorts of configurations could give optimal performance. Doesn't seem to be unique to this product though.
