SPDIF-IO worked!

Creative 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
Creative 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer

Pros: This is the only sound card I could find with SPDIF output from an internal connector for use with video cards that require SPDIF sound for HD lines. I used this Gigabyte card since I had to use AGP and it had a built-in HDMI connector. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125281 This was to feed an HDTV with video and sound to watch video streams only available on line, which in this case was the Van Cliburn competition.

Cons: The pin out for the SPDIF cable was very difficult to find. See the answer below. I initially found conflicting info, tried it and it didn't work before I found this correct info below which did work.

Overall Review: Plug the video card's SPDIF pair into the sound card's 10-pin SPDIF_IO connector. Below is a diagram of exactly where. PBXXX 0XXX0 P = pink wire B = black wire/ground X = pin 0 = no pin

Perfect for Dell 4700!

EVGA GeForce 9600 GT 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 01G-P3-N870-AR
EVGA GeForce 9600 GT 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 01G-P3-N870-AR

Pros: The Dell 4700 is a very good work horse of a computer, but its cooling system is weak in that it's fan (in the back toward the top, right under the power supply) blows inward instead of out. Fans near the top should blow out (hot air rises), and fans near the bottom should blow in (cool air input, to work with the natural conventionary flow). This makes it a bad idea to install a major heat making device inside of a Dell 4700. This EVO card was the only NVIDIA 9000 series, PCI-e and dual monitor that vented its hot air outside of the computer through its "double wide" configuration and internal cover and fan. The other thing I was concerned about after reading other reviews was whether the 4700's power supply would be adequate. Two months later, there have been no problems with heat or power, with hours of use per day running Adobe CS4 for on line college courses and a dual monitor set up, one of them Full HD capable. This card couldn't have been more perfect for the situation!

Cons: Haven't seen any yet.

Overall Review: If I couldn't have found this card with this set of features, I would have to have compromized in some other way. Other cards didn't vent to the outside of the case, like this one, and their heat would have just risen right up to the 4700's processor and added heat to the oven inside. Since the 4700 makes its hot air flow against it's natural forces by drawing cool air in at the top, this EVO card cooperates by drawing hot air out at the bottom (its own hot air, plus more from the inside of the computer with it's large fan). The Dell 4700 is hard on hard drives with its poor cooling. This video card seems to help keep the case cool inside rather than adding heat. It couldn't have been more perfect for the challenging situation. I highly recommend this card for a Dell 4700 or any other case with a backwards cooling system.
