This review is from: Synology DS1010+ Diskless System Disk Station 5-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Business
Pros: *small carbon foot print and form factor
*LARGE storage capacity for every flavor of RAID you can imagine
*built in BT functionality [downloading/seeding]
*quiet even under heavy load
*accepts multiple variations/flavors of HDD's
*extra Memory slot [Kingston 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)]
*fantastic GUI and great resources built into the interface for setup
*iPhone apps specifically designed for Synology servers
*encrypted remote file access
*scalable to 10 bays with DX510 [20 TB's!!]
*multiple networking protocols [FTP, SSH, iSCSI, Telnet]
*PHP/MySQL [web hosting]
*wake on LAN functionality
*surveillance station for IP cam
*Time Machine backup functionality for MAC
The list goes on and on....
Cons: *doesn't fold my laundry
*option to purchase with drives installed would've been nice but let's be realistic you can get a much better deal buying drives separately
Other Thoughts: I've been eyeballing this server as the end all media solution for my home office and entertainment needs. Pulled the trigger finally at $799 and it's probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. The Synology box simply blows away the competition [Drobo, QNAP, Buffalo] in terms of price, features, ease of use, flexibility, functionality, etc.
I added the extra 2GB mem stick to the expansion slot for good measure; I use it as a file server, music/media streamer to my family's connected/wifi devices, Time Machine target for MacBook, also host pictures and blog. You can literally access your home network from anywhere with internet access!
*Looking into purchasing DX510 expansion box soon.
This review is from: SAMSUNG ToC 46" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV w/ DNIe - LN46A650
Pros: Screen size, price, 1080p, 120 hertz feature, widgets, LAN, media options [mp3 and pictures], many HDMI ports
I LOVE this TV, picture quality is much richer than more expensive Bravia and Pioneer Elites I researched [at least to me]
Cons: Speakers - hope you have a decent receiver because the speakers are pretty much a FAIL, not too many 'fine tuning' options, no adding widgets, remote is fugly [get the HarmonyONE if possible]
Other Thoughts: I've had my Sammy Sung for nearly a year and it just died via the dreaded 'Power Cycle' issue. I had updated the firmware prior to the issue but I still got hit. LUCKILY for me I bought the TV 7/21/08 right here on newegg. Word of caution though, be sure to register it on Samsungs website to get he additional 90 days of warranty outside of the general year. Also keep your firmware updated....too many stories of Sammy's crapping out due to poor hardware [i.e. shotty PSU boards]
I was extremely lucky to get hit with the issue 20 days before my warr ran out...
