This review is from: Corsair Force F40 CSSD-F40GB2 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Pros: I know this is no longer carried at Newegg, but if you are searching the Internet looking for information about purchasing one from a different dealer, etc. DON'T!
Only pro was its initial speed.
Cons: Drive one: Last about 13 months.
Replaced by a Refurbished drive (thanks for nothing, Corsair) It lasted 8 months.
Replacement replaced by another Refurbed drive. It lasted 7 months.
Other Thoughts: Going to the recycling center. I can't do a 4th drive. Fool me once......READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: When it worked, it worked well.
Cons: Fan died after about 6 months of usage. That being said, I was folding 24/7 so the fan, once installed, was never shut off – until its untimely demise. I liked the rest of the HS so much that I replaced the dead fan with an old fan I had on hand. Two minor modifications with the Dremel and BAM, back in business.
Other Thoughts: 2 eggs because I liked the unit as a whole. At $13 it was a win for me either way. Bearings went out in the fan. The one I replaced it with is still going strong though. With a better quality fan, they could charge upwards of $20.READ FULL REVIEW
Truth be told, I am asking it to do next to nothing (most of the time) but when it is running, it has no problem recording 2 HD OTA shows and shifting previously recorded HD content to my server. Triple duty.
Runs cool for an HDD. That's a plus since it sits in a low profile HTPC case.
Cons: None so far.
It would be nice if WD just dropped their color designators. How about using something like VR for Video Recording, SV for Server environments, etc, etc. Green for power saving is logical but blue and black?
Other Thoughts: I needed a place to store recorded OTA HD content while it was waiting to be downloaded to my server. I had just enough working space on the SSD to hold 2 hours of HD recorded video. That is until I added a second tuner card. At that point, shows stopped recording because previously recorded shows were either still waiting to move to my server or were in the process of being downloaded. At about $60, this HDD fit the bill nicely.READ FULL REVIEW
