1yr Follow up, going strong!
Pros: . Strong sturdy design, heavy, dosent feel fragile at all . Cooling solution is flawless, heaviest of games don't warm the keyboard surface . White led backlight for keys . Large functional track pad. . Built in legs on bottom . Windows 8.1
Cons: . Heavy, large, only the biggest laptop backpacks will fit this beast . Windows 8.1 . The front of the laptop whre you rest your hands is much more raised than most gaming laptops and hard plastic/metal, the corner leaves impressions on my left arm after awhile.
Overall Review: Bought this last may at 3 grand but its this exact laptop so here is the 1yr follow up. Zero complaints, runs everything fantastic, dosent over heat, 32 gigs ram, 880m nvidia, i7, blueray read/write, all round fantastic. This laptop continues to handle game releases. Plays GTA 5 near max setting across the board smooth as silk. AC : Rogue, smooth as silk. Witcher 3 just hit today and at default settings there are only slight framerate hiccups during cutscenes, no where else. Averages 40-50 fps during game play and the laptop gpu exhaust fan port gets about as warm as when playing WoW on ultra settings in a capitol city during peak hours. IE, dosent overheat at all. Two thumbs up and five eggs, very nice :)
Does NOT fit the MSI Dragon
Pros: . Firm outter construction. . Plenty of additional pockets in the main area, in the outside front zipper and even more pockets on the bottom secured by velcro.
Cons: Does not fit 18.4 inch laptops.
Overall Review: Gave it 4 stars because its made well enough and if you have a laptop that fits it I'm sure you'll enjoy it but this laptop was listed as frequently purchased alongside the msi gt80s titan sli-222 top model gaming laptop and I can flat out promise you it Does. Not. Fit. So, since no one else who accidentally made this purchase for that laptop ever bothered to leave a review (which would of saved me money if someone had!) here is my review and fair warning to folks.
5 Month Follow Up
Pros: . It has its own legs! . Overwhelmingly powerful, ram is total overkill and a fantastic future proofing investment. . Screen lid is much more sturdy than the g75. Don't need the foam layer inbetween it and the keyboard to prevent scratching. . 5 to 6 second count from power button press to login windows screen. . stays very very cool. . Everything is very quiet except the blue-ray drive.
Cons: . keys feel slightly sensitive, don't always 100% of the time register my key presses unless im firm with my typing. . still not a fan of the brushed metal this laptop uses for the entire keyboard area/hand palm resting points. it shows all smudges and is a pain to keep clean/ clean period. . blue ray drive is noisey when initially reading discs. . occasionally takes up to 45 seconds to power down, which is odd because usually it takes about 4 seconds to power down.
Overall Review: This is my second review for this laptop, scroll further down to find my initial one. This laptop is still a beast, Shadow of Mordor just came out two days back and this laptop runs it on full ultra settings with optional high res dlc smooth as silk 98% of the time. occasional split second hiccup when going ghost mode. not often though. I'm always using this thing for everything i do and i take it all over the place so she's seen a good bit of rough use and takes it all in stride.
5 Weeks in, Still rock solid!
Pros: Ok, I've now been running with this laptop for just over a month. . Still quiet as heck, even under full load, very very very quiet. . Plays all my games at full or almost at full settings (i like 60fps and as such usually drop shadows a notch in all games i play) . asus's update software with this laptop is a whole lot better than what came with the g73. Very quick, works well.
Cons: . Lifting the display from the center makes a tiny click in the plastic behind the camera, I think its un connecting one of the dongle connector thingies. A gentle push on the camera clicks it back, opening the screen lid from the sides removes the problem entirely. . I've noticed a slight fade 'scratch' dead middle of the screen, I think its caused by putting pressure of any sort on the screen lid when its closed causing the screen to actually touch the keyboard. Solution? Don't put any pressure on the top of the laptop, handle it from the sides. . When putting headphones on sometimes the laptop still puts out audio to the laptops speakers. Unplugging the headphones/external speakers and plugging them back in fixes it.
Overall Review: Slight quirks aside, with proper handling this laptop is still my number one suggestion for anyone looking for a quality fast as hell affordable laptop.
Decent Port, get a xbox controller though.
Pros: -Plenty to do for those needing structure. -Plenty to do for those who hate being hand held. -Decent graphics. -All cutscenes can be skipped. -Full Co-Op functionality. -RPG system, gain exp for kills/quests, level up, spend skill points, repair and upgrade and mod all weapons in the game. -Very large game world. -Everything respawns overtime.
Cons: -Mouse/Keyboard isnt very well implemented. -A few bugs, needs a patch. -Graphics feel... afew years older than they should be. -Co-Op is always on.
Overall Review: Lets see, this is a zombie game meets hack'n'slash rpg meets questing system similar to World of Warcraft. The game runs very smooth on my asus g73gw laptop, loading screens are minimal. Do yourself a favor and get a xbox360 controller if you don't already have one. The game plays MUCH better with controller than mouse/keyboard. And to any who think 'get a xbox then', my laptops portable. Co-Op's seamless integration can create some humerous moments such as another person suddenly joining my game and appearing next to the thug zombie I just knocked over with my car. Definitely a good game, minor issues aside I suggest anyone who's wanted a zombie survival rpg to get this for the platform of their choice and enjoy :)
Long Term Review
Pros: Running 1 year solid now, just giving a follow up for anyone curious. Original purchase was this month last year, first one arrived DoA but newegg's quality service got me a replacement within days. I average 8+ hours a day running this psu in my gaming rig which is spec'd below. No problems what so ever.
Cons: First arrived DoA.
