Samsung BlackJack II Red 3G Unlocked GSM Smart Phone with Full QWERTY Keyboard
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Aesthetically pleasing
Intuitive menu design
Good battery life
Clear display
Good features for alarm

Cons: Internet is slow and/or does not work well with providers other than AT&T
Applications are few and far in between and often do not work well
Needs extensive system upgrades to be current - these are free but difficult to find and time intensive to install correctly
No way to turn off notification light for email/SMS/MMS
No way to use your own MP3 files for ring tones without extensive registry modification
Contact list does not allow enough characters for all names
Often shows SMS messages as remaining new or unread after they have been selected and read
Poor quality photos

Other Thoughts: I am not pleased with this phone. If you have the time and skill for extensive modification it could be a fun device. Unfortunately, as is, it is frustrating and not even close to the functionality of other smart phones. Windows Mobile is a nightmare - updating the OS and .NET framework is necessary for current applications to work and this is time and labor intensive. Windows Mobile's web pages are full of misinformation and dead links. There are very few applications of interest made for Window's Mobile and these often don't work despite upgrades. This phone produces the worst quality photos of any phone I have owned, even much cheaper models. You cannot send picture messages without an internet package and even if your non-AT&T service provider sets up a data package for you the internet is cumbersome and slow. The Qwerty keyboard is odd with strange shortcuts to symbols etc. For over $100 you might as well buy something that is quick, current, and fun right out of the box.
