WD Elements SE 1TB USB 3.0 2.5

5 out of 5 eggs Works great in MacBook Pro 04/25/2013

This review is from: WD Elements SE 1TB USB 3.0 2.5" Portable Hard Drive WDBPCK0010BBK-NESN

Pros: Purchased this as my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 would not work with an external Toshiba 1 TB USB-3 drive. Several others at my work were using the WD external drives without problems on their MAC. I have been using this drive for about 2 months now and it works great.

Cons: None

SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD500BW 2.5

5 out of 5 eggs Works great in MacBook Pro 04/25/2013

This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD500BW 2.5" 500GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Works great in 15" MacBook Pro Mid 2012. Replaced a 7200 RPM 750GB drive. This drive is much faster at booting and loading apps. Put it in and it just worked. Used Time Machine to load the drive. Using the default OS-X driver so I am not using TRIM. Installed under OS X 10.8.2 and then upgraded to OS X 10.8.3 with no issues. Have had the drive 2 months now.

Cons: Could not update firmware using the stand-alone ISO from SAMSUNG, so using the firmware that was shipped with the drive: DXT06B0Q

SAMSUNG needs better MAC tools.
