This review is from: Roku 3 Digital HD Streaming Media player w/ Headphones Game Remote
Pros: Fast smooth 1080 HD streaming
Surround sound 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus Output
Motion Sensitive Remote, can play games with it
Wide variety of content available
Cons: Lacks outputs compared to original Roku, HDMI only
Requires credit card to set up box
Need a receiver with Dolby Digital plus and HDMI 1.3 inputs to decode surround sound
Default setting allows buying pay programs without perental controls or PIN number
Other Thoughts: I have owned the original Roku box and loved it. It has been rock solid, and had every kind of analog and digital output imaginable. I bought this as an upgrade to mate with my audiophile quailty old Harmon Kardon AV receiver and Paradigm speaker system, and stream Netflix. I ran the HDMI output to a new Samsung TV, and used the digital optical ouput from the TV to my receiver and got no sound. The problem was that my old receiver had Dolby digital, not dolby digital plus, and thus couldnt decode the audio. Switching the setting on the roku box to stereo sound enabled me to hear audio, but in stereo only.SO I will have to shell out for a new receiver to use this thing.
This thing also requires entering credit card info to activate.
By default there are no parental controls, or PIN numbers required to buy content. So any kid playing with this can buy content without you knowing it. To set up a PIN number you have to have a Roku account and setup a PIN number.
The bottom line is that this is a high performance impressive sounding little box with alot of content, but you need a new Dolby Digital Plus capable AV reciever to utilize surround sound
This review is from: Maxi-Matic EKA-9210SS Stainless Steel 4-Slice Toaster Oven Broiler
Pros: Very Durable, and reliable.
Cons: Basic Model, no bells or whistles
Other Thoughts: I bought this 2 1/2 years ago for work. It was on sale from Newegg for $20 at the time. It has held up just fine with heavy daily use at work, where five people use it daily. I cant believe how long it has lasted, fancier and more expensive toaster ovens usually never lasted even a year in the past.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: SanDisk Sansa Fuze+ 2.4" Black 8GB MP3 Player SDMX20R-008GK-A57R
Pros: Great Sound, Great FM reception and Clarity, Good Battery Life
Cons: Confusing interface, tricky touchscreen
Other Thoughts: This is the second Sansa mp3 player Refurb I have bought from Newegg. The first has held up well for over 2 years and I am very pleased with it. I bough this one a s a gift for a friend and ended up using it myself for its FM radio during power loss with Hurricane Sandy. Its a refurb but looks like new. When I plugged it into my Windows 7 computer I right away got a Sansa Screen which offered to update the firmware, which I did and it was effortless. It also offered to download the user manual which is essential. Unlike the prior Sansa player I had, the interface is not intuitive and it is tricky to navigate. You will need to read the user manual. But once you get past the touchy touc controls and confusing interface, this is an excellent player. Mp3 sound quality is impressive, and the included earbuds are decent. FM reception and clarity are excellent I used this to keep updated during a prolonged 4 day power outage, and the built in lithium battery lasted all four days of intermittent usage, 2-4 hours each day. The screen is little but the display is sharp. Highly recommended once you get past the confusing interface.READ FULL REVIEW
