SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCL+-F Micro ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1155 Intel C202 DDR3 1333
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: I'll look for Pros in other server boards...

Cons: Server 2008 R2: constantly drops LAN connectionin the middle of large file transfer, system logs are full with error events related to LAN connectivity... nightmare...

Other Thoughts: Ater two weeks of troubleshooting I RMAed this board back to Supermicro and got a new one with SAME PROBLEM !!!

Then I connected a laptop with cross-over cable and discovered that LAN is dropped only on LAN Port-1 and the Port-2 is NOT affected... This is a SECOND board.

Then I discovered that Supermicro did modified the original INTEL EEPROM image to make that Port-1 a dual-purpose data/ipmi port. That "customized" EEPROM image HAS BUGS and causing problems...

To be 100% sure I also installed a PCI-E network card (HP NC382T) and it runs just fine with same OS.

... I design and build PCs and servers since 1999 and I must admit: this board is absolutely worst experience ever.

I'm writing all this to help fellow IT pros to avoid my pain and frustration...

SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCL+-F Micro ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1155 Intel C202 DDR3 1333

Pros: Looks good. That is about it...

Cons: Would not power-up properly - fixed that with BIOS upgrade.

*LAN Interface keeps dropping connection with Server 2008-R2. Updated BIOS, NIC eeprom, LAN driver - nothing helps...

Other Thoughts: After 3 month this board is NOT ready for a production server. Had to call Supermicro support million times - still no resolution. Nothing else to say...

Western Digital Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: Large storage for the price...

Cons: 2 out of 3 of these FAILED within SIX month:

PC starts freezing randomly, takes forever to copy a folder, S.M.A.R.T reports errors... finaly drive dies...

Other Thoughts: Spend more money and get something better - like Western Digital RE3
