This review is from: SAMSUNG 840 Series MZ-7TD250BW 2.5" 250GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Pros: Fast when it worked.
Cons: Died in just under a year. Locked up computer / won't POST.
Other Thoughts: After registering the failed unit, ALL of the Samsung support functions stopped working, the screen just froze every time I attempted to contact service or send an email for support.
The warranty is useless if you can't contact the manufacturer for service or warranty support.
The Samsung support for SSD seems to be separate from the rest of the Samsung products. Can't even chat with a rep. Speaks poorly of how Samsung feels toward their SSDs.
Pros: Seems to run faster than its ratings. Fast W7 install, fast boot, fast program loads.
Cons: Only got 7.5 in WEI via SATA 3. Rates lower than any other SSD I've tried, but still seems to perform very well.
Other Thoughts: Might need a firmware update to get the max out of this SSD. I'll continue to test and tweak and report back as progress is made. SandForce controller should really scream. I can't understand the WEI score when this drive seems so fast.....
I'm testing this drive in preparation for using it as a new SSD in a laptop. Obviously will be a magnitude faster than its current mag drive.
This review is from: Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Pros: Fast. Very fast. Did I mention these drives are fast?
Cons: Surprise!! Three different drive failures in a week!!! Two different desktops and a laptop.
Other Thoughts: All three recovered with a firmware update. Full recovery with no data loss. Well, almost no data loss. But there was definitely an interruption in service. Seems like this is a pretty well-known problem with the M4 devices.
I hate it when that happens.
Two stars instead of one because at least Crucial provided a utility to easily correct their problem firmware.
