5 out of 5 eggs Follow up 06/22/2010

This review is from: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: This is a solid, good looking case with plenty of room. If you've outgrown the "tricked out", side-window, LED light-show look, but still love the flexibility and pride that comes from a custom build, this case fits the bill. I also like the power supply on the bottom.

Cons: Will suck dirt like a vacuum. read other thoughts...

Other Thoughts: This case comes with 120mm fan in the rear and a 140mm in the top. The description mentions an "optional" 120mm fan on the side (to cool the GPU). IMO, this is not really optional. You need to either install the side fan (blowing out) or cover the gaping hole. With the rear and top fans blowing out (as they should), the side hole becomes a giant vortex that will suck in every piece of dust and dirt that comes within two feet of it! Also, the front of the case has mounts for two 120mm fans. The front fans should blow into the case. There is a washable filter that snaps into the front cover; it works quite well. I opted to add fans to all three optional locations: one in the side, two in the front. When in doubt, light up an incense stick and check the airflow. If you're sucking in air from anywhere other than the front of the case you need to correct that.

This is a great case for a great price. I have since bought another one and now have two (full of fans).

5 out of 5 eggs No nonsense case 04/23/2010

This review is from: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: super affordable, good looking, good cooling, front sb and audio connections, plenty of hard drive bays, and roomy inside.

Cons: No quick release drives, no external 3.5 for those of us who aren't quite ready to give up on floppy drives.

Other Thoughts: All things considered, this is a great case for the money. I'm quite happy with it after my build today.

Pros: Everything you need for a little media pc in a little package and for a good price.

Cons: No firewire

Other Thoughts: I installed MythBuntu from a thumb drive and had a MythTV frontend running in less than an hour. I have read reviews about the wireless not cutting the mustard. Mine is hard-wired, so I can't attest to that. I had some trouble getting a wireless USB keyboard to get detected quickly enough to enter setup. I used an older USB keyboard I had laying around and managed to get into setup w/o a problem.

Depending on the quality of your thumb drive, you may have to try several times to get it to work. Try forcing FDD in bios. There is a huge difference between a "freebie" thumb drive you get from some vendor and a high quality one. Just be sure to use a good one and you'll be just fine.

I am going to buy another one of these for another room in my house. If you're looking for a good, affordable frontend, you can't beat this thing. Buy it! :-)
