5 out of 5 eggs fanless gbit switch 01/23/2007

This review is from: TRENDnet TEG-S80TXE Unmanaged Copper Gigabit Switch

Pros: no fan. this is the quietest
gbit router I could find.
I've had two for about a year.

I measure it to consume about 3W
+ 0.25W/link

Cons: none

SILVERSTONE FN121 120mm Case Fan

5 out of 5 eggs excellent choice for front disks 12/27/2006

This review is from: SILVERSTONE FN121 120mm Case Fan

Pros: excellent air movement/sound.
excellent air movement/price.

Cons: none yet.

Other Thoughts: On a D975XBX with an E6800, I had
a 120mm Vantec Stealth SF12025L
for both front disks and rear exhaust on the motherboard
3-pin connectors.

However, I found that the MB
would spin these low-speed fans
down to 660RPM where they made a clicking sound, and I felt did not provide enough air flow over
the warm WD Raptor drives.

The Silverstone FN121 addresses
my needs perfectly by running
at a constant 1200 RPM
(cooler, but still quiet)
via the legacy 4-pin molex.

It is a bonus that it also
provides a sense line to a
the MB via 3-pin connector.
While this doesn't control the
fan it allows me to verify that
it is still turning.

The key feature is the price,
which is extremely low compared
to competing quiet solutions.

I'll keep the rear exhaust on
a MB speed controllled fan
as max capcity there is more
important, and silence less so,
but the FN121 is my new favorite
front disk cooling fan.
