ICY DOCK MB382SP-3B ICY DOCK EZConvert Air Open Air 2.5” to 3.5” SATA SSD & HDD Converter / Mounting Kit
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: It did exactly what I bought it for. Make a 2.5" SSD fit nicely into a 3.5" drive bay. It converted the power and SATA connectors for use in a desktop. This mainly means that it used a 4 pin molex connector for power instead of the thin SATA power connector.

Cons: In my AMD Sabertooth motherboard (running Fedora 20; but the OS didn't matter), the BIOS in the Sabertooth started failing to see the drive. I finally was able to isolate to either the drive or the ICY dock. Connected the SSD directly to the motherboard (removed the ICY dock) and didn't have an issue. So, I think the ICY dock was the problem.

Both system are running Linux Fedora 19.

I copied my boot and root partitions to this drive. I left home and opt on the slower hard drive. Boot times significantly better on both (3x).

Cons: None so far

Pros: Used this to place a Samsung 120G SSD in my desktop unit. Copied the boot and root partitions over. Works great and improved by boot time by at least a factor of 3.

Linux Fedora 19
AMD
