XFX Double Dissipation R9-290A-EDFD Radeon R9 290 4GB 512-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
  • Verified Owner

Pros: Great Performance. Runs all games so far above 60 FPS. One of the best card I have owned. Quiet

Cons: I was disappointed with the thermal results of this card. I am not sure if I got a defective one but in order to achieve decreasing the temperature down to 78c from 94c (closed case), I had to install an additional 2 fans and I am not even close to the 60c that some other guys mentioned while on full load.
I experimented a lot testing different configurations and here are some results while playing Crysis and with no overclocking:
1) Closed case, 1 fan pushing out (back), 1 fan pushing in (front)=> Core=94c, VRM1=102
2) Open case, 1 fan pushing out (back), 1 fan pushing in (front)=> I was disappointed with the thermal results of this card. Case:COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC

Other Thoughts: I was hoping to give 5 stars to the card and I would happily update my review if I got a defective one. Will run some additional tests but thinking of RMA it as I am not able to even get close to 60c, that some other reviewers mentioned. In any case, the manufacturers should clearly state that additional cooling is required within the case.

XIGMATEK Dark Knight II SD1283 Night Hawk Edition CPU Cooler with Stealth Aerospace Industry Thermal conductive ceramic coating LGA1150 Haswell Compatible
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: It works fine with light over-clocking

Cons: Dark knight has failed for my setup. Based on the tests i performed

1) it is not recommended for heavy duty over-clocking. Significantly higher temperatures 5-10oC from Megahalem (930 i7 overclocked to 4.00GHz)
2) The reason for not performing adequately is the base of the cooler. it is convex and not straight and there is a big gap between the heatpipes and the enclosed metallic plate around it.

Other Thoughts: I had to return and bought a Megahalem. I am using a push/pull configuration with 2 silverstone fans. Could not be more happy.

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • Owned For: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: This could have been number one motherboard....

Cons: I had to return back. After spending countless hours optimizing it, i enjoyed two days of amazing functionality. The third day it died...

The problem is with the BIOS. They created an amazing mother by including the best components in the market, but forgot to create the code to make them work all together in harmony.

Other Thoughts: I returned and bought an Asus motherboard. Less features and more expensive but the probability of a future fault smaller.
