This review is from: NUANCE Power PDF Standard
Pros: this is the improved version of Nuance's PDF Converter that I have used in work and at home for the past two years.
I have a difficult time evaluating speed since I installed it on a new PC I just built. that said, in work I run it on a Xeon processor with 24gb of ram Windows 7 and my home PC is an FX8350 with 17 gb of ram on Windows 8.1. Power PDF is noticeably faster at home.
it also seems to OCR more accurately. I convert scanned machine tool manuals for reference(I are an engineer) and making them at least searchable is a boon. so faster and more accurate is a boon
all this and I don't have to buy Acrobat Pro
Cons: none that I seeREAD FULL REVIEW
This review is from: EPSON Perfection Series Perfection V600 Film & Photo Flatbed Color Scanner
Pros: the best I have seen for negative film scans. on old medium format (folding camera and Brownie, not pro) negatives of family photos, the image is better than the old prints I have
Other Thoughts: I have lots of negatives of family photos from the 1930'-1960's. the original prints are not always in the best of shape, and I want to make copies for other family members. since I am not motivated to set up a dark room again and make prints, I have been trying my old scanner (about 1/6 the resolution) and then a combo digital camera to dupe. neither did negatives well. I am just overwhelmed on well this scanner handles BW negatives from junky old camersREAD FULL REVIEW
This review is from: ABBYY Screenshot Reader
Pros: I am able to extract text from password protected PDF files. I understand the need for protecting intellectual property but to even copy a piece of text to search within a protected pdf file is impossible. this gets me there. and of course I use it on obscure documents relative to my job, because I am a poor typist (and I program among other things). I have to search a lot in PDF files, and ABBY helps me where other screen capture programs like SNagit couldn't. and if it is protected, you can't change it to searchable with programs like Nuance (older PDFs generally are non-searchable).
Other Thoughts: It only cost me 10 dollars on sale at Newegg, and it has helped me with several nettlesome searchesREAD FULL REVIEW
