4 out of 5 eggs Response to reliability problem 03/29/2014

This review is from: Linksys EA6900 AC1900 Dual Band SMART Wi-Fi Gigabit Router

Pros: Earlier post

Cons: Draft IEEE 802.11ac spec. No path to finalized spec.

Other Thoughts: Following up on my earlier post where the router was very unreliable. This was the manufacturer's response.

Manufacturer Response:
Hi David,

We appreciate your feedback with the Linksys EA6900. Allow us to help and make the router work at its best performance. Intermittent connection might be caused by the following factors:

• Low signal quality received from your wireless router
• Proper MTU size of the network not determined
• Frequency interference from other wireless devices
• Physical obstructions
• Mismatched router and adapter settings
• Computer adapter’s driver needs to be upgraded
• Power outage

We can assist you in getting this resolved. You may send us an email at with your contact details and the link to this review.

Linksys Support

None of the above applied as the ASUS router never had a problem with the same network and devices. I did call Linksys customer support. We re-did the setup manually instead of using the smartwifi setup.

The difference was using a different name to identify the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. This made all the difference in the world with regards to the wireless reliability. So far, no more dropped wireless connections. No dropping of the wired connection as of yet either. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Come to think of it, the ASUS router I had before had different names. What mislead me was that the smartwifi help for the field says that you can use the same name.

1 out of 5 eggs Very unreliable 03/26/2014

This review is from: Linksys EA6900 AC1900 Dual Band SMART Wi-Fi Gigabit Router

Pros: Only reason I bought this was because it was packaged with the sb6121 cable modem which worked great.

Cons: 1) The router hangs every few days affecting both the wired and wireless connection requiring a reboot of the router to clear.

2) wireless connections also drops intermittently requiring wireless devices to drop and add connections to restore.

3) draft version of the IEEE 802.11ac spec.

Other Thoughts: My bad for not reading the reviews and the fine print of the specification on the Newegg site. Read the glowing reviews in PCMAG which is totally irrelevant.

Had an Asus wireless router before this and it was solid and reliable. Never again will I buy another Linksys router.

ASUS P5B LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
  • Verified Owner
  • neweggOwned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Good stable motherboard, good value for the money. Decent overclocking capability but not great. Able to overclock E6300 to 2.24Ghz but no higher using OCZ gold ddr2 6400 ram.

Cons: Does not have ability to change the north bridge voltage from bios and thereby hindering ability to overclock higher than 325Mhz fsb speed. Cooling is a potential problem too given the lack of fan or heat pipe for the north bridge chip.
