This review is from: ZyXEL PLA5456KIT HomePlug AV2 MIMO AV2000 Powerline Pass-Thru 2-Port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Kit, up to 2000Mbps Transmit: up to 2000 Mbps Receive: up to 2000 Mbps Powerline Speeds: up to 2000 Mbps
Pros: Low cost, ease of setup, performance
Cons: No obvious software support on Zyxel website yet, but the software for the PLA5246 seems to work with it.
Other Thoughts: The adapters quickly found each other when plugged into my AC outlets and synced up. These units are replacing some Netgear AV1000 adapters and are about 20% faster (about 120-130 Mb/s for me, with occasional bursts to >200 Mb/s). More than enough to support streaming Blu Ray rips.
The Netgear units would sometimes drop the connection for a minute or so before re-linking but I haven't seen that with these AV2000 units so far.
This review is from: ZyXEL PLA5215 Powerline Gigabit Pass-Thru Ethernet Adapter Up to 600Mbps
Pros: I'm getting about 10-15% greater throughput with these than I did with a competitor's 500 Mbs powerline kit (about 50-70 Mbs actual) and can stream 30-40 GB movie files from server to TV without buffering now. And it's more reliable than my wireless connection to the TV.
Cons: A bit big, partially blocks the other wall socket. Can plug in a standard 2 blade plug into the unused wall socket, but larger 3 blade types might not fit. Power pass-thru socket on the adapter works fine though.
Other Thoughts: It appears that real world, usable bandwidth is about 10-15% of rated bandwidth with this type of product, and this one gives me just enough to get it done.READ FULL REVIEW
