This review is from: Seagate Backup Plus 3TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop Hard Drive STCA3000101 Black
Pros: The activity light isn't annoying. Still in warranty. Did manage to get all but one file off.
Cons: Lasted 16 months as a DLNA server drive. Died a couple of days ago. Warranty site is currently down.
Other Thoughts: Used a few hours per day for 16 months before it started writing very slowly. Went to the closet and heard it seeking continuously. Immediately pulled files off it and managed to get all but one. Read speeds were as low as 355kB while getting data and had to unplug and plug it back in four times.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Seagate Expansion 4TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STBV4000100
Pros: Small case for a 3.5" drive. Quiet operation. The activity LED is small blue and not annoying.
Cons: The slowest USB drive I have owned.
Other Thoughts: The plastic cover will flex a bit but it contains a metal mount for the HD. Heat was not a problem in that it got slightly warm but not hot while I loaded nearly 2TB of data on it.
My biggest gripe and the reason for only 3 eggs is that it only writes at a maximum rate of 26.9 MB/S on a USB 3.0 connection from a SATA 3 drives capable of 115MB/S. No excuse for that.
Luckily it is being connected to a router that can only handle 10 MB/S anyway.
If attaching to a desktop look elsewhere.
