4 out of 5 eggs Works as advertised 11/19/2013

This review is from: WD 2TB My Cloud Personal Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBCTL0020HWT-NESN

Pros: This is an inexpensive 2 TB NAS that supports Windows File History and Apple Time Machine. It's very simple to configure and it works as advertised.

Cons: This device is probably not for advanced users who want high performance and sophisticated access controls. I wish there were additional options for removing some of the default shares. If you really want to make advanced system level changes, you can always log in to the system via SSH and muck around, but I would advise against it.

Other Thoughts: This system is really designed for simple network file sharing. In my case, I am using the device for File History and Time Machine backups. I personally would not use this device as an iTunes or media library unless I had solid backups elsewhere. I use this device solely as a backup target for my home Computers. For the price, this device is great. As someone who works in Enterprise IT, I know what I bought. I could have spent 3-5 times as much on a device with much higher performance and greater redundancy, but that is not what I needed or wanted. If you are considering this device, make sure you think about what you actually want to get out of it. It does some things very well, but it's a single drive that costs $150 so don't expect to get SSD performance from it.
