Turtle Beach Montego DDL 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
  • Owned For: more than 1 year

5 out of 5 eggs get new drivers from website 12/02/2010

This review is from: Turtle Beach Montego DDL 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

Pros: As segolden stated, go to http://www.turtlebeach.com/support/index.php?View=files&CategoryID=394 and get the latest drivers. With the latest drivers for Vista\Win7 64bit, the card sounds great.

People complaining about it not working with Vista or Win7 obviously didn't read the specs Newegg listed nor did they check Turtle Beach's website.

Just something I always do, is check the manufacture's site for latest drivers and toss the drivers CD in the trash.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Configuration software is a little clunky and looks "messy".

5 out of 5 eggs wanted to add to my last review 10/09/2010

This review is from: Western Digital WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player

Pros: I wanted to add that I was having an issue with some MKV files. Once I updated to Beta v1.03.39 firmware, those issues were resolved.

Cons: Would be better if it had a 1GB network conenction.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend that this devices as well as the PC/server you are streaming media from are wired. This device is only does a max of 100MB full-duplex, but if the PC/server you are streaming from is capable of 1GB, I would make sure the router/switch and/or both are able to do 1GB so if there is any other device accessing the PC/server.

5 out of 5 eggs Almost Perfect! 10/07/2010

This review is from: Western Digital WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player

Pros: Plays 99% of any media throw at it. I've only had issues with about 2 files. It will play Blu-Ray DVD ISOs somewhat (see cons). Netflix is great as well. Remote is small and very responsive. We now have 3 of these and canceled our cable TV service (keeping internet) and save about $120 a month so these are paid for in 3 months. We already had Netflix, so there was no additional cost for a subscription.

Also, the multiple outputs are great for older analog TVs as well as newer HD TVs.

Surround sound passthrough it great as well; just make sure your receiver can do all the formats of you won't have any sound but that is easily fixed by setting it to stereo out only.

If you play on converting your movie library, invest in a good RAID system for speed and buy the great software from SlySoft to rip all types of DVDs. You can use BD Rebuilder or Handbrake to convert Blu-Ray DVDs and regular DVDs to MKVs to save room and retain surround sound with great quality picture qualit

Cons: No native Hulu. If you have a descent, newer dual core or higher PC (either a spare, media center PC like we use or just a good desktop or even a server) install PlayOn ($30 per year or $80 for a lifetime. I held off on the lifetime in hopes that WD would add Hulu to in a firmware update) and you're all set. Works perfectly. Although, if you want more that one of these devices to stream Hulu (or other content) you will need a pretty high-end PC with more than 2 cores.

Blu-Ray DVDs do play but not the best. Does not support menus either. Use BD Rebuilder to convert the Blu-Ray ISO (need to mount) or disc to an MKV and you're all set.
