1 out of 5 eggs Issues - No More ASUS 01/18/2015

This review is from: ASUS Z9PA-D8 ATX Server Motherboard Dual LGA 2011 DDR3 1600/1333/1066

Pros: KVM ARC is about the only good thing.. Except you can't update the system BIOS with the system..

- I've been real patient waiting on a new BIOS to come out... So the Pro here is my patience, not the terrible product released from ASUS..

Cons: 1. Documentation on motherboard settings is pretty poor.
2. BIOS Updates Brick the system
3. BIOS Doesn't Support 2 CPU's.
4. BIOS updates delete all previous settings
5. BIOS updates break USB functionality
6. Power off from server OS is useless and doesn't work.
7. Doesnt' work well with either ESXI 5.1 or ESXi 5.5 with or without any updates so 5.5U2a
8. Documentation on KVM is horrible and incorrect.
9. JAVA KVM Control only works with Windows Java, not Linux or OSX.
10. I wish I could get the Motherboard replaced with something that would work.

Other Thoughts: This will probably be the last ASUS Motherboard I ever buy.. I bought this to use as a business class server with VmWare ESXi (5.X) or Microsoft Hyper-V and this server is horrible for that purpose. The first time ASUS had to send me a "Special Beta" BIOS so I could get the server to boot with two CPU's.. Really? What? Are you kidding me? Then later I updated the BIOS when the a newer BIOS Came out..it then BRICKED The system! I had to remove on of the CPU's to re-install the BIOS that was shipped to me as a Beta? This is the worst software development I've seen.. Do NOT BUY THE MOBO!! GO To another company.
To think I was looking at buying two NAS boxes from ASUSTor, but you can bet that isn't going to happen with what I've experienced..
I've come to expect more from ASUS, but this is the worse I've seen.

1 out of 5 eggs ASUS - bC Error - undocumented 05/25/2014

This review is from: ASUS Z9PA-D8 ATX Server Motherboard Dual LGA 2011 DDR3 1600/1333/1066

Pros: None at this time - Can't recommend this board

Cons: Won't boot on dual Xeon CPU's.
Non-ECC RAM from Kingston is "Allegedly" supported..

Other Thoughts: When two Intel Xeon CPU's are installed with non-ECC RAM the system will not boot. If only one Intel Xeon is installed in CPU slot 1 with Non-ECC RAM, the system will boot up.

Hardware Information
Motherboard - ASUS Z9PA-D8 ATX Server Motherboard Dual LGA 2011 DDR3 1600/1333/1066
CPU's (x2) - Intel Xeon E5-2620 v2 Ivy Bridge-EP 2.1GHz 15MB L3 Cache LGA 2011 80W Six-Core Server Processor
RAM - Kingston - HyperX 32GB (8 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3K8/32GX

The latest BIOS is installed on the motherboard.

Prior to ordering, to then build this system, the DRAM and CPUs were checked as supported by this Motherboard..

Getting a bC Post error when attempting to boot the system with both CPU's and the above DRAM Mentioned installed on the Motherboard. There is NO ERROR Code for this anywhere on the ASUS support site! None! No information..

What is wrong with the Motherboard? Does it only NOW support ECC RAM?

I have purchased and used well over 20 ASUS Motherboards over the last 15+ years or so.. I was extremely shocked to find out that after lengthy research and then building the system, that this Motherboard doesn't work.. The bC Error code is not documented anywhere on ASUS Website.. This is not good..

I was building this for use with my clients, but that doesn't look like it's going to occur..
