New Remote Wireless Waterproof 300 Yard Rechargeable LCD 100LV Level 2 Shock Vibrant Vibration Dog Pet Training Collar For Two Dogs
New Remote Wireless Waterproof 300 Yard Rechargeable LCD 100LV Level 2 Shock Vibrant Vibration Dog Pet Training Collar For Two Dogs

Pros: It's cheap! It works.

Cons: Had a collar unit stop charging

Overall Review: Let's face facts, this is the absolute generic shock collar. Take a look at them, do a search, they all look identical. The only real difference is that some take batteries and some recharge. Trained my 100+lb rott puppy with one of these and I walk him off the leash. If I beep the collar he comes and finds me wherever I'm at. I use the vibration as a mild warning or to break his concentration. I keep the shock option for an emergency like if he ever took off after another dog or something. I rarely if ever have to use it; he knows the option exists. Cranked half way up it still gives quite a jolt. The range is decent tho my dog stays relatively close so I haven't really tested it. Keep your fingers off the antenna or you attenuate the signal and the range will suffer. I had a collar unit stop charging. I just bought another generic identical looking setup with 2 collars, paired one of them to the old remote and everything was fine. Gave the new set to my daughter for her pit bull. Took apart the old unit. It has a little watch type button battery inside. I'll probably fix it and keep it as a spare. My buys came with thin 3/4" collars. I threaded the collar unit onto a heavy duty 1" nylon collar and it's much more secure and I no longer bring his regular collar. A little harder to remove one side to charge it but it's a real collar now. BTW, the 3/4" collar comes with a D ring on it. It's plastic. If you hook the leash to it... well, you won't be doing it more than once. All told I'm happy with the collar. It works, and if it breaks you can get another for cheap.

Patriot Gamer Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model PGS28G6400ELK

Pros: Outstanding timings set in SPD

Cons: DDR2 is pricey anymore. The heatsinks, while not huge, still needed cutting down for my HTPC case. That meant a stressful session with a dremel tool. I have peeled the heatsinks off other sticks of ram before. Eventually I peeled the chips off a board and that ended that practice. I think a nibbler would have worked better and relieved my angst over metal filings and the extreme measures I took to minimize them - but I didn't have one so ultimately I can't positively recommend doing it that way.

Overall Review: I love Patriot ram! They always have great chip timings and I've never had a problem with it's operation. I took a long time to track down Patriot SODIMMs to run in my old laptop just for the great timings. (Even tho I had to order them from a warehouse in Ireland). THIS ram went in a new HTPC. Of course I wanted the great timings because..... well because I'm funny that way! System; HP DC7900(240W PS!!), Q9650, HD5570, SSD, 2TB WD green drive, Blu-ray burner, 65" Sharp Aquos... As with many major brand systems it had a crippled BIOS. No way to tweak memory settings. I could hack the BIOS but instead went with the Patriot ram that had the SPD settings. The system booted and uses the tightest timings in the SPD; outstanding!

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5570 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card 100293L

Pros: Low profile Low power consumption Good performance Runs pretty cool

Cons: not so far

Overall Review: My old P4 HTPC would stutter on higher def video. I got a nice little SFF HP with a core2quad but only a 140 watt PS. This video card filled the bill nicely; quiet, powerful, low profile, and runs on minimal wattage. My HTPC; Q9650 8gig Patriot Gamer DDR2 Sapphire Radeon HD5570 64gig Crucial M4 SSD 2TB WD green drive Sony blu-ray burner

I love this card!

Linksys Wireless-N300 PCI Adapter with Dual-Band (WMP600N)

Pros: Can't tell for the range as I'm not even close to maxxing that out. It is connecting @270Mbps in the den with the furnace and water heater between it and the router in the study, in the bottom of the stereo cabinet about 6" off the floor. You can imagine, in the bottom of the cabinet, behind the doors, my range of motion for the antennas is somewhat restricted. So what I connect at is not too shabby! Never any problems with it. Connects solid, fast, and reliable every time. Streams netflicks and whatever else I want to my HTPC. My router has a USB connection and I can connect external drives to it and stream them to the HTPC too. The endpoint of all these 1's and 0's is my HD 65" LCD TV. BTW, fits fine in a Small Form Factor case with the low profile bracket.

Cons: Wish they made this in a 1x PCIe configuration. For the card itself, got no complaints.

Overall Review: Playing with the orientation of the router antennas and the card antennas will get you your best signal/connection speed. Also I forget the configuration you need to use to get the ~300Mbps speed. You'll have to google it. The reason I forgot is I set it up long ago and never had to touch it or think about it again! I'm building a new HTPC and will probably get this same card that is in the old HTPC. The old system may just end up in the bedroom.

Toshiba P25

Patriot 1GB (2 x 512MB) 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model PDC1G2700SLLK
Patriot 1GB (2 x 512MB) 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model PDC1G2700SLLK

Pros: My Toshiba laptop had 512meg with sorry timings of 2.5-3-3-7. I was horrified. Installed a 1gig stick of Patriot 2-2-2-5 ram and the timings went to 2-3-3-6 which actually was running the CL2.5 Hynix ram that came with the laptop a little tight. Pulled the stock Toshiba Hynix ram and it booted to the Patriot SPD settings of 2-2-2-5. Divider went to 5:4 so life is good! My son is going to sell the 512 Hynix and I'll use the money to subsidize another 1gig Patriot stick.

Cons: Newegg price went from $129 then to $135 now. I'll still be getting another 1gig stick tho.

Overall Review: If you've ever gone in the Toshiba laptop BIOS you know it's either way stripped down or inaccessible. Can't tell it much more than the date and time. I was sweating that the timings might be locked but it used the SPD chip on the Patriot ram to boot 2-2-2-5. Runs great!
