Pros: This drive is a nice improvement from the Western Digital WD1001FALS drive that it replaced. SATA 6 Gb/s is noticeably faster The drive is quiet and Win7 64-bit recognized it out of the box with no issues. I am hoping that this "Black" drive lives up to the reliability of the WD1001FALS model that I have had.
Cons: Not as fast as the Velociraptor or an SSD. Although the drive is quiet in my mid-tower case, it IS slightly louder than the WD1001FALS model. The clicking noise of the arm is higher in pitch and so I notice it more. Not enough of an issue to lose an egg, but thought I'd mention it.
Other Thoughts: This drive was an upgrade to a my PC simply for additional space. I have not attempted to use the drive in a RAID, so I can't comment on that application. Lastly, I can recommend WD's imaging software, Acronis True-Image, for cloning an old drive. Previous headaches associated with installing an OS on drives > 2TB no longer seem to be an issue.I had Norton Ghost as a backup plan for the transfer, but never needed it. The "extended data manager" function of Acronis made the cloning process a snap.READ FULL REVIEW
