This review is from: Rosewill RDRD-11006 3.5" HDD Mounting Kit for 5.25" Drive Bay
Pros: Solid enough; metal (as opposed to plastic) helps to draw heat from hard drive.
Cons: Limited mounting options. I used this for a small case that only had bottom mounting holes in the 5.25" bay, so I had to add side holes to mount this in the bay. Works fine with the case mod, but it would have been nice to know ahead of time.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Good performance; easy setup; cheap price (at time of purchase)
Cons: Failed after less than three years. Not just an occasional click and a few bad sectors, but it completely fails to show up in the BIOS in any computer I've tried, so nothing can be recovered.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Pogoplug POGOB01 Diskless System Media Sharing Device (Pink)
Pros: - Web interface is attractive and simple
- Software allows access to remote folder as network drive
- Easy to view videos and photos in a nice slide show
Cons: - Very slow to start up when it hasn't been used for a couple of hours or more
- Frequently forgot about the external drive attached to it (I tried a couple of them) and had to be rebooted on site to access my files -- defeats the purpose of remote access
Other Thoughts: It's a great idea for a product; I just don't understand why it's so unreliable after a few generations. I'm upgrading to a proper NAS with a SATA port*.
*Mind you, these things actually do have a SATA port on the inside, which you can use if you jailbreak them and install ArchLinux, but why spend all that time jailbreaking when you can get a better product to begin with?
