This review is from: Intel BOXDH77KC LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Pros: Motherboard has most features needed in the present and future including USB 3.0 in the front (header and back panel; eSATA, 3 x PCI, PCIe 3.0 16x, PCIe 2.0 4x, etc. Be aware that the H77 chipset is not for overclocking so don't expect it to do what it wasn't designed for. No installation problems
Cons: The SATA connectors on the edge can be difficult to use, but not impossible. It took me a couple attempts to get the cables connected as I wanted. Does not accept a PATA cabled DVD writer so I couldn't install a new SATA DVD writer and an old PATA DVD writer.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Titanium Grey Silent ATX Mid Tower Case
Pros: Excellant cable management and flexible layout for several drives (SSD or HD). Very quiet case and fans.
Cons: Acrylic window attracts dust from the inside of the box and outside. During the winter the low humidity makes the static electricity attract dust so window constantly needs to be cleaned. I wish the case came with two left panels (one with a window and one without a window). Having to open the front panel to use the DVD writer gets a little tedious, but I guess it is the price of the quiet case.
Other Thoughts: The case comes in at least 3 options, windowless black, windowed black and windowed gray. I didn't realize that when I placed the order. I don't know how it would have changed my selection, but I wish I had realized the options.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: WD Passport Portable 80GB USB 2.0 2.5" External Hard Drive WDXMS800TN
Pros: Small size and light weight plastic case makes it very portable. Syncing software useful in most cases. It looks elegent. Single USB cable makes it easy to connect.
Cons: Write Delay Failures increased in frequency, as did data corruption. Reformatting helped for a few weeks but problems returned. Data easily corrupted if USB cable removed before Safely Remove Hardware Permission given, which may take several tries. USB cable only 9 inches long. Worse, the drive may not work in the front USB port of computer, nor from a powered USB 2 HUB.
Other Thoughts: Drive's unreliability not critical as long as it was only used to carry data between home and work computer, and not as a back-up. For now, using a U3-capable 4 GB Thumb Drive ($60) with DMailer Sync Software (18 minutes to sync 2 GBs) Hopefully, the replacement WD drive will be more reliable.READ FULL REVIEW
