This review is from: EPSON Perfection Series Perfection V600 Film & Photo Flatbed Color Scanner
Pros: Excellent scan quality from negatives.
Scanner software splits and rotates scans and automatically numbers multi-image scans.
Dust reduction, color correction and digital ICE work well
Reasonably speedy scans
Cons: Scanning large format negatives is somewhat cumbersome - I can fit three on at a time.
Other Thoughts: I'm in the process of scanning several thousand old photos and negatives and decided to upgrade from my old trusty xerox to hopefully get better quality and increase my workflow efficiency. The V600 has allowed me to do all this. The quality of scans of my 35mm negatives is impressive, and the scanner software allows me to automatically split, rotate and name photos with accuracy; speeding up my scanning chores. Overall I'm very happy with the V600.READ FULL REVIEW
This review is from: Cuisinart CBC-4400FR Black/Steel Brew Central 14-cup Automatic Coffeemaker
Pros: Well, it's a nice looking unit.
Cons: II use this coffee maker at work daily - it's been in place for over a year, replacing another Cuisinart machine that produced poor coffee. It's amazing to me that a reputable manufacture would commit so many design errors in one product. Here are some of ther problems with this product, in no particular order:
* The design requires that the entire top compartment be open while filling with water. This raises the risk of splashing cold water on the coffee grounds and increases the risk of getting grounds in the water chamber.
* Coffee grounds may spill over into the water cistern when brewing with a large quantity of coffee grounds.
* When lifting the top compartment lid the condensed water underneath does not all run back into the cistern, but dribbles down the back of the machine. Better results require the lid to be raised to a 45 degree angle while the water collects before fully opening.
* The carafe is difficult to poor without dribbling water or coffee
Other Thoughts: Despite using reverse osmosis water, freshly roasted and ground coffee and filters that are stored in a sealed bag to prevent the absorption of odors this unit has NEVER made a good cup of coffee --- not even close. I mentioned that it replaced another Cuisinart maker that also produced bad coffee.
The poor performance of this unit has stimulated much theorizing at work. The dominant theory is that there is a gradual accumulation of coffee grounds in the main cistern that are breeding bacteria. There is evidence of this accumulation. Cleaning out the interior of the unit is not trivial. We have run vinegar solutions through, and run water through until the output was clear. No satisfaction yet, the coffee is still lousy.
