2 out of 5 eggs PWM Fan ports are Fake.. only work as 3 pin 09/04/2013

This review is from: MSI X79A-GD45 Plus LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Excellent OC results runs my 3930k @ 4.5ghz 1.3v
Very stable
great memory support.

Cons: The reasoning for the 2 egg ratings is as follows.
My one Major gripe with the board.. And it is the reason for my purchase was the PWM fan ports. out of the 5 ports only the CPU is a true PWM port. The rest are 4 pin connectors yes, but only have 3 pin functionality.

I purchased all PWM corsair fans to run on my rads my main goal was to run all fans of a PWM splitter to 1 channel and the PWM pump to the CPU channel. as it turns out only the CPU port has the PWM functionality. so I now have to buy a separate fan controller to control the pump.

MSI it would be better to only have 3pin headers on your boards instead of 4pin fake PWM headers,

please not that 3 pin fans control perfectly on the 4 pin headers. Just the PWM function is non existent.

This would have been a 5 egg rating if the implied 4 pin functionality was true.

Other Thoughts: IF I had known that only a single PWM port was was actually functional I would have gone a different route. I am positive that the PWM are the issue as the manual states only the CPU port has the control lead.

MSI Radeon HD 7950 DirectX 11.1 R7950-3GD5/OC BE 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
  • Owned For: 1 week to 1 month

Pros: Excellent performance for the cost. reference board allows to add a water block easily. 2 in X-Fire handles everything maxed out at 1440p. Overclocks really well 1100/6500 without tweaking voltage on the stock cooler with 100% fan speed. Can't wait till my water blocks arrive.

Cons: The stock cooler is absolute garbage. you wouldn't dare use this cooler on a cellphone let alone a power hungry video card. with auto fan setting at stock speeds Metro 2033 hits 95c on card 1 and 97c on card 2.All this is in a NZXT h630 running with 12 corsair sp 120 fans. I am giving this card 5 eggs because I intended on water cooling it from the get go.

Other Thoughts: I believe some people may be receiving cards with different heat-sinks and could lead to the temperature differences. Still for the price it cant be beat. simply awesome.

Pros: Just a follow up to my previous review.
AMD made good on Bioshock code I received it last night.

Cons: Cons from previous review still stand in regards to voltage tweak.
