This review is from: Foxconn A88GMX AM3 AMD 880G + SB710 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Pros: Cheap $$$
All connections are in well placed locations
Heatsinked VRM's (hard to find in AMD mATX boards)
Heavy - looks and feels of surprising good quality
4 memory slots
Cons: The bios -
For the most part it has everything you need, although it's a bit tricky to find where everything's located.
But there is one fatal flaw with it, and that would be the vcore and memory voltage adjustments. The problem specifically has to do with decreasing the voltage. The motherboard will set a minimum that tends to be way to high, and you cannot lower it anymore than that (although you can raise it if you wish)
As an example, my memory is rated to run spec @ 1.35v. The motherboard for whatever reason decided that 1.59v was where it wanted to be. Now to be fair, quite a few am3 mobos won't allow you to run lower than 1.5v on the memory which would be okay. But 1.59v is just excessively high and I should be able to lower that to at least some. Same for the cpu also, but not as bad (just .025v over what AMD specs as default vcore)
Other Thoughts: It doesn't have USB 3.0 or SATA 6gbps but for the price point that's a given. But overall it looks and feels like a pretty solid product at least hardware wise.
But the one glaring flaw is the voltage adjustment in the bios, and something like that is worth at least a couple eggs off IMO. It would be nice if Foxconn would release a bios update to address these issues but seeing as how the last bios for this board was released in 9/10/2010, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Pros: Nice heatspreaders
Got them on sale for a good price
Cons: Won't run at the advertised timings of 7-7-7-21
After installing these and double checking that the timings and voltage were set correctly, windows would immediately blue screen after booting. Everything works just fine when set to 9-9-9-24 though.
Rest of my system is:
Gigabyte ga 770t-usb3
Athlon II x4 640
WD caviar blue 1tb
LG blu-ray drive
Antec neo eco 400c
Other Thoughts: Still not bad for the price, but I was disappointed in not being able to achieve the rated timings. I picked G.SKILL because I used the 4gb (2x2GB) version of this memory in another pc and had no issues with it at all.READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: Nice while it lasted
Cons: On 10/26/2010 9:32:23 PM I wrote a review giving praise to this card, unfortunately it died today.
Other Thoughts: Started out with a buzzing noise. Then went to random game crashes. Thought it was the power supply at first, so I tried another I had laying around but to no avail. Back to Newegg it goes...READ FULL REVIEW
