HP x755w 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128HP755-GE

3 out of 5 eggs a bit disappointing 09/07/2015

This review is from: HP x755w 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Model P-FD128HP755-GE

Pros: When new, the read and write rates for this drive were very high. Crystal Disk Mark gives ~200MB/s and ~130MB/s for sequential reads and writes respectively.

Cons: After writing to the drive a few times, the write performance drops dramatically to less than ~20MB/s. Even the rate for deleting files drops, down to ~10/s from the initial value of hundreds/sec.

The read rate remains high, making this drive good for a write once, read mostly drive. But that wasn't what I want in a thumb drive. Back to my Kingston thumb drives.

Other Thoughts: Reformating the drive restores its performance, but takes forever.

Silicon Power Ultima U03 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive Model SP008GBUF2U03V1K

Pros: Cheap, they were on sale ($5each) and I should have known better. Every time such a sale happens it's because someone is dumping something already judged useless by the general world.

Cons: CrystalDiskMark took so long to set up the test file for diagnostics that I thought it had crashed. I haven't seen a drive this SLOW in years. 15MB/s read, 5 MB/s write.

It is quickly recognized by the Windows7 system (seconds), that is why I gave it two eggs instead of one.

Other Thoughts: Now I don't have to worry when I give someone a set of files on a thumbdrive if I'll get the drive back. In this case I hope it doesn't come back.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

5 out of 5 eggs very effective 04/12/2014

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: I installed this on a 2011 socket 6 core processor and I'm rather pleased. I had first tried a GeminiII S524 cooler, which I selected because it has a lower profile and fit into my case. But that cooler isn't up to the task of an overclocked hex processor.

I had to change cases because this cooler is so tall, but it was worth it.

Cons: none
