Categories > Card Readers > Kingston Technology Corp. > Kingston FCR-HS3 USB 3.0 15-in-1 Media Reader

Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3 Price seems outrageous
Pros: Looks nice
Works well when it works
Cons: Too expensive here
disconnects
Other Thoughts: I see this on another retail site for seventeen dollars and ninety eight cents with free prime shipping. Not sure how this merchant can justify seventy one dollars for this.
I have had this reader for a couple years and unlike most Kingston products it is a bit disappointing. I experience repeated and unexpected disconnects, I am still trying to isolate the root cause of this.

Categories > Card Readers > Silverstone > Silverstone FP56 USB 3.0 Multifunction Card Reader with 3x USB 3.0, 1x high speed charging port (Black/ White/ Silver)

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 great product with what's needed for photographers (dongle free connections)
Pros: simple to install
simple to connect [one 4 pin power & one usb3 connector]
superior construction - robust metal build
3 face plates to match your case (the white worked for my nzxt case)
Cons: the front connectors are not the best & they are difficult to see/identify
- one face plate came broken - (better packaging?)
Other Thoughts: recommended as the best card reader available (no nonsense card reader)
- what about XQD cards?

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Easy to use and setup
Pros: I have an upgraded Windows 10 OS, it works, no driver updates required. Didn't not come on at first. I switched the usb connection it was plugged into internally (while computer was on) and working like a charm, I have a Asus Z87 Pro mobo. Make sure you have drive bay brackets to install in 5.25 bay.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: No issues so far. Would recommend, it's a good price point

Categories > Card Readers > STARTECH > StarTech FCREADUOTGDB Multi-Card Micro USB (OTG) OTG USB Memory Card Reader Dongle for Mobile Devices - Supports SD & Micro SD Cards

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Workable
Pros: Unit works as advertised. Have successfully tested it with microSD and SD cards and mice, keyboards, USB flash drives, and other card readers.
Cons: The instructions are a bit wanting. They seem to suggest that one should not insert or remove a card or USB device while this OTG adapter is powered either externally or by the smartphone. Would be better device if it could support on the fly insertions/removals of data cards and USB devices. That could be a limitation of OTG.
Other Thoughts: The first one of these I received either was defective or failed shortly after testing it with data cards. The USB port continued to work but the card reader would never read any cards and may actually have destroyed one microUSB card I was testing. Newegg promptly replaced the defective unit and the replacement did work flawlessly.

Categories > Card Readers > Rosewill > Rosewill RCR-IC002 - 74-in-1 Internal Card Reader with USB 2.0 Ports & Extra Silver Face Plate - Fits 3.5" Drive Bay

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Decent Product
Pros: This internal card reader does its job, but nothing extra, save for convenience. This is basically just a big USB card reader, because it is just connected as a USB 2.0 header, but the area where this really shines as a piece of hardware is the integrated convenience of it all. It is internal and it is a card reader. If that phrase appeals to you, then it could be worth it to you if you've ten dollars or so to spare.
Cons: The product does feel really lightweight, which can be a good thing, but I would say that one should be easy and careful while installing and using this product just because it feels as if it could fall apart at any moment.

Categories > Card Readers > Silverstone > Silverstone FP56 USB 3.0 Multifunction Card Reader with 3x USB 3.0, 1x high speed charging port (Black/ White/ Silver)

Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4Rating + 4 Great USB 3.0 hub for usb and 3.0 card reader.
Pros: -Comes with 3 different front plates to match the system
-3.0 USB hub
-3.0 card readers
-charging port works great
Cons: -the USB cable is blue so it will stand out in your system
-the rest of the case could be black so it doesn't stand out as much.
Other Thoughts: Take note. People that complain about the USB ports don't work in windows 10 are correct they don't work right out of the box. To get them to work, you have to go to device manager. Find the USB hub and go to Its properties. Under the power management tab, you have to uncheck the box "allow computer to turn off port to conserve power" and they will now work without requiring a reboot with the device connected to start working.
