Categories > Motherboard Accessories > ASUS > Asus TPM-M R2.0 14-1 Pin TPM Module

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Works flawlessly on supported motherboards. Configuration required
Pros: Adding the Asus TPM-M module to a motherboard with a 14-1 header allows full TPM functionality. Bitlocker encryption on Windows with automatic unlock or TPM 2.0 TSS on Linux are fully functional.

There are several configuration issues to do first, both in BIOS and, if running Windows, to the boot hard drive (see Other below).
Cons: This isn't any fault of the product itself, but installing and using the TPM is not plug-and-play.
Other Thoughts: There are a number of tasks you need to complete before the TPM is functional.

In BIOS:
1: Enable the TPM and select the TPM and configure it as a PTT (Intel Platform Trust Technology) device. The default setting is usually dTPM - this won't work. On Asus BIOS setups, this setting is in the Advanced menu->PCH-FW Configuration section.
2: If using an Asus motherboard, in the Boot Menu->CSM section, set "Launch CSM" to Enabled, then set Boot Device Control to UEFI and Legacy. On other motherboards, you'll need to find the equivalent settings to enable UEFI boot.

Operating system:
Linux: Install ibmtss2 and you're set. A search for IBM TPM 2.0 gives full documentation.

Windows: If you run Bitlocker at this point, you'll probably see errors in the TPM configuration screen. Windows complains that the TPM isn't fully functional. The reason is that your boot drive needs to use a GPT partition rather than the default MBR. If you are running the Windows 10 Creator's Update, the easiest option is to use Microsoft's MBR2GPT tool. (If you still run the Anniversary Edition, you can use MBR2GPT by booting to a Win 10 Creator's install drive and launching the command prompt).
1: If you have more than one drive installed, you need to determine which physical disk is your boot drive. Launch DISKPART from an elevated command prompt and use the LIST DISK command to view your drive details. In all likelihood the boot drive will be number 0.
2: [Note: I'm assuming the boot drive is #0. If you are not sure, verify with DISKPART as above!] Run MBR2GPT.EXE /disk:0 /validate /allowFullOS from an elevated command prompt. This will verify whether your boot drive can be converted to a GPT disk without data loss.
3: Assuming #2 above is successful, run MBR2GPT.EXE /disk:0 /allowFullOS
4: Reboot and open Manage Bitlocker. Go to the TPM Administration tab and you should see the TPM is now fully supported.
5: Encrypt your drives, etc.

Categories > Motherboard Accessories > ASUS > ASUS Model ThunderboltEX 3 Expansion Card for ASUS Z170 and X99 Motherboards

Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1Rating + 1 30 days Trial version product?
Pros: When it worked , it worked perfectly but it stopped working after a month of usage for no reason.
Cons: - Setting it up took 3 hours of trial and error (driver ,software and Bios) to get it working , countless pc restarts
- Asus has not released any firmware update and the driver on their website is old which does not help.
- Card stopped working after a month for no reason , no changes in the computer environment as culprit, windows can't find it
anymore
- Spent not less than 20 hours and ongoing in researching online and troubleshooting, uninstalling drivers and card itself ,no success yet.
- Numerous customers who bought this product are having same issue , check asus forum
- over priced for a 30 days usage only and no support.
Other Thoughts: as much as I love asus products and being a loyal customer I do not recommend this product until it actually works properly however Thunderbolt EX2 seems to be working better for others, this is clearly due to lack of firmware, software and support for EX3

Categories > Motherboard Accessories > ASUS > ASUS Model TPM/FW3.19 Trusted Platform (TPM) Module for Asus Motherboards

Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3Rating + 3 Once was a good TPM for older Asus motherboards, but its security depends on SHA-1 which has fallen
Pros: This works with older Asus motherboards which were designed for this model to allow pain-free BitLocker usage. It is easy to install. All versions of Windows 7 support this model out of the box without a patch, which makes it easier to use than a TPM that complies with version 2.0 on a Windows 7 or a Windows 8.0 computer. This TPM comes with a CD with software to help you use it with Windows versions up to Windows 8.1, but is worthless for Windows 10 users because its software was designed for Windows 8.1 and earlier due to being written before Windows 10 shipped.
Cons: This TPM depends on SHA-1 as required by the TPM 1.2 standard. Unfortunately, SHA-1 has a demonstrated collision attack, meaning that the security of all TPMs conforming to the TPM 1.2 standard could possibly be more easily broken.
If you use this TPM with a motherboard which is designed for use with a TPM-L R2.0, you will not be guaranteed that this TPM will work with future BIOS updates because Asus's support stated that it only supports the Asus TPM-L R2.0 in my X99-M WS motherboard even though the TPM/FW3.19 and the TPM-L R2.0 use the same pinout that fits that motherboard. The TPM/FW3.19, which is based on the older TPM 1.2 standard, is not as secure as a TPM based on the TPM 2.0 standard.
Other Thoughts: This TPM complies to the TPM 1.2 standard. The Asus TPM-L R2.0, which replaces the TPM/FW3.19, complies with the TPM 2.0 standard. Windows 8.1 and later prefer the TPM 2.0 standard, but will work with the TPM 1.2 standard. Windows 8.1 and later come with drivers for both TPM 1.2 and TPM 2.0. This TPM does not fit on Asus Skylake or later motherboards which use a 14-1 pin TPM header instead of the 20-1 header that this card is designed to fit on. I cannot recommend this TPM for Asus's X99-based motherboards because Asus's support stated that Asus only supports the TPM-L R2.0 and not the TPM/FW3.19 on its X99-M WS. I originally wrote my review stating that this model was not compatible with my motherboard, but that turned out to be a regression in version 3005 of my motherboard's BIOS that disabled both the TPM/FW3.19 and the TPM-L R2.0 that has since been fixed. Asus's support only guarantees support for the TPM-L R2.0 in the X99-M WS. For earlier motherboards, please contact Asus's support on whether this is the correct TPM for your motherboard, or if you should buy a TPM-L R2.0 instead of the TPM/FW3.19. A TPM that implements the TPM 2.0 standard for PC clients is guaranteed to implement cryptographic algorithms that are faster and stronger alongside the old cryptographic algorithms. This TPM daughterboard contains an Infineon SLB 9635 TT1.2 TPM chip which appears to be discontinued.

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Gigabyte GC-TB-2
Pros: I have my installed in a Asrock x99 WS motherboard. I put it the pcie slot that Asrock says put it in. Loaded the drivers and it works. It has been working with no problems.
Cons: Can not find this card any more!
Other Thoughts: Gigabyte had a TB-3 card but pulled it from the market as soon as they announce it.

Categories > Motherboard Accessories > ASUS > ASUS ROG Front Base Dual-Bay Gaming Panel

Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5Rating + 5 Asus ROG Front Base w/Maximus VIII Hero
Pros: Worked perfectly out of the box--it does everything in the specs, and the controls are intuitive. Manipulating fan controls take an extra step, but that helps prevent accidental modifications. Latest Drivers installed easily and firmware successfully updated after latest mobo BIOS updated and stable Win10 Pro 64 installed.
Cons: This component is tough to find anywhere else, at a reasonable cost. Have NewEgg send you a note when they get more in stock, and then clicky-clicky to buy that same day, or you may wait a while. I kind of wish the equalizer control was a little easier to get to in order to modify settings, but it makes sense how Asus implemented it.
Other Thoughts: I suspect this component may like to drink clean power, kind of like how new mobos have fewer anomalies with a new power supply vice one which has been chugging along in a system for a year; yes, even a Corsair. MS EMET also seems to hamper installation, depending on settings. Case manufactures seem to be making more and more cases with less than 4x 5.25" external bays--makes for a tough time getting this, my Blu-Ray, and my Pro -77U installed.
