Is this router compatible to windows XP, 7 and 8 computers?

I don't have any Windows XP machines anymore but I'm sure it would work just fine.  I run Windows 7 and 8 on my network with no issues.  I also have a mac (my wife's) and it works just fine.  Great router, very easy setup and as always with Linksys routers it performs very well.

Question 2

Would I need a Wireless AC adapter or will this work with an N adapter on my computer?

Hi Ken,
     The WRT1900AC has the following specs:

Model: Linksys WRT1900AC
Technology: Wireless-N & AC
Bands: 2.4 & 5 GHz

You will need some sort of wireless N adapter.  I would look at Linksys WUSB6300 or ASUS USB-AC56 or similar.  Do a search for 802.11AC USB 3.0 adapter.  Happy computing!!

Question 3

Have problem with current modem.  Have Charter  60mbs.  Charter tech says need modem compatible with docsis 3.0.  Does this fit or ?

Sounds like you might have either gotten a bad support rep OR you're actually using this Ethernet router as a cable modem (which it is not). Cable Modems and other cable equipment which gets connected directly to the coaxial feed need to be DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) compliant. This Linksys Router is intended to be connected downstream from a Cable Modem via its Ethernet port.

What type of Ethernet cable comes with this?

It is a flat-body standard Ethernet cable which will work fine for speeds up to and including 1gbps. Length is approx 6ft. There is a picture of it in the listing - fourth picture which shows the full contents of the package.

Question 5

Does it matter what Windows version is on the various computers using this router?  My desktop that this would "hook" into as well as an old laptop have Windows XP pro.  My newest laptop has Windows 7 pro.  Then I have a Kindle and a smart phone.

No, it does not matter.  The router is backwards compatible with all wireless standards as well as ethernet protocols.  I have had this router for 6 months, and iy thus far has been the best router I have ever had...and the easiest to install.  We use it with multiple devices: two computers, two smartphones, a Kindle Fire HDX, and a wireless Epson printer.  I highly recommend this router.

Question 6

Does this router have native WPA2 Enterprise on the original firmware? I am considering buying this for a small business and have read that it has the ability to do WPA2 Enterprise but didn't know if you had to flash the firmware to do it.

Yes, it supports WPA2 Enterprise in its original configuration.  You can also set it to automatically update firmware, so no need to flash it if there are new features added.  I have used this for several months and have had not a single problem with it.  I highly recommend this router.

Question 7

Can anyone who has recently purchased this confirm if it is version 1 or version 2 (version 2 has no fan and the processor has been upgraded to 1.3 Ghz)?

There is no fan, at least none that I could find, however the box says it has a dual core 1.2ghz CPU.

Question 8

My wifi signal died on this router 3 months after purchase.  Has anyone else had this issue and is it recoverable?  I had to swap an old router back into my network to keep clients up and running.  Is this thing just trash now or what?

Good morning. I have used this router for about 6 months and have not had performance issues. I sold it because it runs very hot. This unit still might be covered by factory warranty in your case, so please call Linksys to check if you can get in exchanged or repaired at their cost.

Can i use vlans with this?

Yep. The Firewall ruleset interface isn't much through. (then again, I'm used to Palo Alto, Checkpoint, etc).

When will the Shibby Tomato firmware be available with this router?  Doesn't seem to work w/ it at this time.

I don't recommend purchasing this router as I was tricked to buying it due to the false advertising to discover that there was no working DD-WRT for it and most likely this won't happen due to missing source from Marvell
