The Cosmos 1000 from Cooler Master has an acoustical performance that reminds you of the quiet of space. Extreme sound suppression was a primary focus of the design. All four of the fans are 120mm to move the most air with the least noise. The two fans on the top blow air out through a louvered duct and the intake fan is on the bottoms and pulls air up through a filter. The side panels are covered in a sound deadening material.

But it isn't just about keeping things cool, convenience also played an important role in the design process. The five external 5.25" bays have a one button locking system to secure the drives in place. Six hard drives can be installed in individual cages with sound deadening grommets. The cages and expansion slot screws are all thumb screws so you don’t need to worry about finding a screwdriver, though one is included.

At the top of the case is the control and connection panel with the power and reset buttons, plus the status LEDs. They've also included a FireWire port, eSATA port and audio jacks. Four USB ports let you connect your peripherals without having to reach around the back of your case.

  • newegg Supreme Expandability with 11 Drive Bays Boasting five external 5.25" drive bays, and six internal 3.5" drive bays, the Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 provides supreme expandability.
  • newegg Ultra-quiet Operation Featuring a sound barrier design, the Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 applies soundproofing materials inside the chassis to minimize component vibration and block system noise for silent operation.
  • newegg Maximum Cooling The Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 is equipped with four 120mm fans (one at the rear, two on the top, and one at the bottom), a VGA air duct and a dedicated 120mm fan mount for HDD, providing maximum cooling for your computer system.
  • newegg Tool Free Installation The Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 features finger pressing buttons for easy installation or upgrade of the 5.25” devices.
  • newegg Convenient Top I/O Panel The Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 features a convenient top I/O panel for easy access to four USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394a port, one eSATA port and two audio ports.

Massive space with great fans!

Pros: Building inside this case is a breeze, which is also generates thanks to its well positioned fans. Sides are easy to remove. Cable management to the HDD bay can be a bit annoying as the drives are all slotted in sideways. Stretching a cord from the PSU to the top 5.25" bay resulted in a lone cord that you can't bundle with zip ties. Plenty of room for after market fans. Incredibly easy to remove panels. Incredibly well made. Filters are a breeze to pop out and clean every now and then to keep air cooling on point.

Cons: Side panels require a little love every now and then. The screw in the switches that releases the sides can become loose after time which results in a tricky removal to fix it. A bit heavy which is to be expected of a large case that is of such quality, but it makes you aware of where you are placing it so it wont sink into carpet or sitting on the ledge of a table.

Other Thoughts: This case is pretty fantastic and it's a shame they don't make this model anymore. If you find one that is in relatively good condition and are looking for something with great air cooling that you can work on whenever you see fit then I would jump on it!

Exactly what I expected, with a few nice surprises

Pros: Did a lot of research before purchasing this case. Wanted quite, but was on a budget. This was the best case for the money at the time. I have no plans to upgrade this case. Since it's sealed up for quietness it also seems to keep the junk out. When I open up the case to add peripherals, it's not too dirty inside there, unlike my cheap HTPC up in my living room which is filthy on the inside.

All in all, I would definitely buy from Cooler Master again in the future.

There is ample cable management here and the HDD's are easy to install and remove. Was able to cram a giant CPU heat sink and fan and a large motherboard without any problems. The down side is your hard drives will get hot. I ended up spacing the hard drives with one empty bay in between each drive and then purchasing the Antec spot-cool. No problems since doing this. Do not stack all your magnetic drives next to each other and don't forget extra spot cooling, else you will be on the road to hard drive failure in no time.

If case manufacturers would start building-in hard drive cooling fans than I would be tickled pink.

Cons: My only complaint is that my USB ports fell apart, literally. The USB ports on the top front of the computer. The up side is that I was able to purchase a replacement kit from their service department at a reasonable price. It was a bit of a hassle to replace but didn't require anything beyond ordinary hand tools. You basically purchase an entire module that has the power and reset buttons, USB and SATA ports, and audio jacks and replace that whole unit.

CM Cosmos RC 100: Still working flawlessly after 7 yrs

Pros: 1. Two bottom ventilators with filters. 2. Extremely well made, 3. Sleek, 4. High Quality, 5. Looks wonderful, 6. Ample Space, 7. Allows for a quiet system

Cons: No SSD bays. (SSD's did not exist back in 2007) You have got to use an aftermarket 5 1/2 inch tray to house your SSD in one of the 5 1/2 inch bays.

Other Thoughts: I bought this case in March 2008. Fast Fwd 7 years later, the only thing that's left of my original Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 on a GA-P35-DS4 & Gigabyte NVIDIA GTS-8800 GPU is the case.

I re-used this case for my new build which is an ASUS Maximus VI Hero, i7-4770k, GTX 780ti GHz Edition, a Samsung 840 EVO SSD and two 2TB WD Green HDDs. The system is powered by a Silverstone Strider Gold 850W PSU.

All computer ports (USB ports, mic, etc) and every mechanical part in my case still work perfectly.

I am sure I will reuse this case with my next major update cycle after 4 years or so. This case is one of those things that are always in style, like a Harley-Davidson.

Perfect full tower case

Pros: Very large, made of high quality material, power and reset buttons feel premium-made, has lots of space for expansion for even the biggest of graphics cards. Has a multitude of front panel connections which include four USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA port, FireWire, HD audio and mic. Side panels are pop on-off, there are no screws it just has a latch mechanism which is easy to put on and off. Even after seven years it still looks to be well worth its $199.99 asking price.

Cons: It is very heavy but I guess that is not really much of a con as it is, per say a statement of its great craftsmanship.

Other Thoughts: This is quite possibly the greatest case of 2007-2008 era.

Still great

Pros: I'm not really sure why I am leaving this review as the case is no longer available, but I figured I would leave my input anyway. I bought this case in 2009! 5 years ago... I use it for my work PC and even to this day I still get comments from clients amazed at it's size and looks. When this thing is all closed up you cannot even tell that the computer is on it's so quiet.
I noticed a reviewer below mentioning a few things such as the front panel not latching and the front ports prone to failure. He never said his failed and I would like to point out that after 5 years of moving this case from work to home and back to work and even to new buildings nothing has ever went wrong with it. I was concerned at first about the metal bars used for feet and handles as I thought they were slightly loose, but even after all this time they stay point and perform great. All of my front ports work great and the front panel latches closed via the magnet very well. The previous reviewer might want to make sure his case is level.

I was in the process of looking for a new case for a new high end pc build to replace my 5 year old pc still sporting an old school unavailble i7 processor and I cannot find a case like this one. I was hoping cooler master had a new and improved version but this is still a unique case and I think I might still use it for my new build.

Cons: To me this isn't a con and anyone reading descriptions will know better, but this case is quite heavy even empty. I didn't bother to go back and look at it's weight, but with a pc parts in it the tower has quite a bit of weight for being aluminum. To me that just shows it's craftsmanship :)

Other Thoughts: If you are still reading this review and you can find one of these cases used don't hesitate to pick one up. They seem to hold up very well to age and abuse so you can't go wrong.

Comments: Can't stress the risk that comes with this case. It's a big investment to make on something that you can't guarantee will work.

Best case I have ever had, but HUGE!

Comments: This is a big 'ol case, I knew it was big going it, but was pretty blown away when I actually received it. It is huge. Other than the little niggles in the cons, I am very happy with the purchase. I would buy a Cooler Master case again.
