Best itx board of 2016

Pros: - Plugged in hooked up and turned on no muss no fuss. painless build.
- has bios control to turn all the red led junk off, breathing or solid
- Heatsinks on phases as well as decent number of phases
- padded IO shield. SO hate those springy bent steel things.
- a not stupid layout of plugs, some are goofy but now as terrible as other board available on 5/16 MSI ITX comes to mind

Cons: Really picking nits for these cons,
- Red stuff on it.
- No IO cover, but that is hindsight somewhat.
- only 3 fan headers 2 for cpu related things
- surface facing SATA, ugly in my instance but for uber tiny cases I can see side mounts being an issue.
- no label on wifi or BT ports. Which is which? I do not use wifi just bluetooth for a KB
- stupid OS junk (usb3?) forcing win8+ I know this is more of a OS thing not a board thing but newer hdw is increasingly forcing a OS version on users.
- Finding a case that uses a standard PSU and is not the same size as a matx or worse a atx case. . . has made the itx choice a bit redundant. 1 year later system still resides on a cira 2002 plexi case mobo tray hanging off a picture hook.
- Painless build took the fun out of it.

Other Thoughts: It is overkill for a media pc and tv gamer system and a non K sku. A 6600 is what I stuck in there so many of the cool toys cannot be used, But at least I wont have power issues like I have had in the past with lower end boards. Bought for intention of 5yr+ lifespan. I am not into tossing cheaper systems in the trash as they fry in a year.
As mentioned WIN 8or10 only apply for those installing MS as a OS. win7 is possible but a pain, google it for solutions.
Using a 7th gen cpu, go get a z270board and get better support and features.
not had any load whine or other noise from the thing. If there was the game or film was to loud to hear it.

Best Mini-ITX Motherboard for the Price. Very happy with my Purchase. But do your Research if your Getting a Kaby Lake Processor. I Failed to do so!

Pros: I don’t know why some people are complaining about this high pitch noise coming from their motherboard under load, because I don’t hear anything of the sort. Maybe it’s their wives whining because how much they spent on their computer and they don’t spend nearly as much on her, I don’t know you knows. It’s beautiful right out of the box though, and then you plug it all in and turn it on then hang on to your seat cause it’s going to blow you away. Great things really do come in small packages. It’s fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. The bios is just beautifully laid out, I didn’t even know you could use the mouse in it (I came from a socket 775 generation). I think there are so many things I like about this board I can’t even list them all at the moment. Personally I like the lighting everyone else seems to be a big whiner and pansy when it comes to the lighting on their board. Or their like OH MY G*D I need to put on sunglasses cause it so bright AHHHH!!! First off it’s not that flippin’ bright okay. Oh well off to Con’s then.

Cons: BEWARE OF THIS UPDATE!!! For starters I didn’t read the review that says with a 7th gen I series processors you need to update to the latest bios. This board DOES NOT HAVE USB FLASHBACK!! This would allow you to do the update without a CPU. Thank g*d my buddy had a 6th gen I3 laying around that I could use otherwise I would have sent it back and got the Z270I. So If you plan on buying a 7th gen processor with this board you better have or know someone with a 6th gen processor that you can use. I have not found out if this is a driver issue or a hardware issue but the built in WIFI adapter is having problems staying connected with the most recent drivers. I’m playing a game and 2 hours (it all depends) in it says “Lost connection please re-log in”. It’s very irritating so I had to run a very long LAN cable to my computer until I can figure this out. Oh yeah and only 3 Fan slots on the board would have been nice to add at least one more. The way my case is set up I have 4 fans (maybe a little overkill for the case that I have but it runs cool so I don’t care).

Other Thoughts: As of this review I have only owned this 1 week so If anything changes I will most definitely come and Edit any of this. Well I chose this board over the Z270I because between the 2 of them this one still supported windows 7. Installing windows 7 became apparent to be a pain the rump. I did get it eventually after researching on google how anyone else did it you have to disable something in the bios and you better have a PS/2 port keyboard at least laying around because thing that you disable in your Bios doesn’t allow you to use any USB devices in the setup process. After finally installing Windows 7 and getting everything on it I wanted, the updates bogged my computer down so bad I chose to go with Windows 10 anyways. So I should have just bought the Z270I version anyways would have saved me one whole day of screwing around for basically nothing. With that being said I really love the setup I chose and I don’t think I’m going to bother with the return process to get the Z270I, And installing another board. I’ve owned Asus Products for over 10 years and I have been dealing with there Customer Support team for just as long. I have never had one single problem with there Customer support, So when I see all these people bashing the Asus Customer Support I find myself asking myself what exactly happened are they not telling us the whole story? Other than the fact that all of them speak very poor english when I call I have to ask WHAT?! 50+ times I have never had one single problem. But with that being said to each their own I suppose. Before this rig I came from a system that I had the ASUS Striker II Formula with a Q9505 processor I decided to sell my whole rig. So after selling my old rig for 600 bucks I wanted to build a Mini-ITX system this time around, and that is exactly what I did. My system build looks something like this.
CPU: Intel Core I5 7600 Kaby Lake
Board: Asus Z170I Pro Gaming LGA 1151
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX (16 GB) DDR4 3000
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500
PSU: Thermaltake SMART Series SP-750M 750W
Case: Thermaltake Core V1 Extreme Mini ITX Cube Chassis
Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 1060 (Coming Soon!!!)

Works but coil whine under load

Pros: - Good layout
- Good BIOS
- Pretty stable

Cons: - Very annoying high-pitched whine under load. I narrowed it down to the motherboard: it would instantly come on when CPU usage spiked. I double-checked by not using a GPU, and also stopped the CPU fan. Unsuitable for a silent PC like the one I was building.

Great motherboard

Pros: - Good amount of USB on the back
- Overclocking
- NVMe M.2 on back
- 8 pin for CPU
- Probably other things

Cons: Nitpicks, but still:
- Clicking sound in headphones when I scroll using the mouse wheel (electrical noise interference)
- Heatsinks get a bit in the way of some low profile CPU coolers in certain orientations
- PCIe card latch is small and potentially difficult to reach
- Plate and components on the back of the motherboard can get in the way of CPU cooler backplates

Other Thoughts: I fixed the audio problem by using the sound card built into the USB dongle of a new headset.
I rotated the cooler and it went in fine.
Long skinny fingers may be required
I just filed down the backplate and it installed just fine.

Best Skylake ITX motherboard

Pros: Compact, very stable power delivery, has WiFi and M.2 support.

Cons: Could not completely disable the internal red LEDs. The only setting to disable them also disables the ability to use the USB ports to charge devices when the computer is off.

The wifi antennas. This motherboard comes with an external antenna attached by a long cable. Personally I am not fond of this. I very much prefer just antennas sticking out the back of the PC. Not really a con, just a personal preference.

Other Thoughts: Recommended changes:
- Option to disable all LEDs while not disabling USB charge functionality when PC is off.
- Regular antennas (no aerial station)

Great! Great! Great!

Pros: - Many many USB, I love it!
- WiFi and Bluetooth works flawlessly
- Great BIOS
- This board has everything you need, including a m.2 which is a nice touch.

Cons: - Flimsy USB3 Pin for frontal case USB
I barely pulled on it trying to disconnect my plug and the socket came out, but it is just a guide, you can reseat it or plug your cable without it and it will still work.
- BIOS is great until you try to put a 7700K (kaby lake) in it. You will require a BIOS update that you can't do unless you have an old gen CPU or a Skylake CPU. Beware!

Other Thoughts: Newegg should offer BIOS update service for 20$, that's what it cost me to go to a computer store to do it.
Excluding (Time+Gas=Rip)

CPU: Kaby Lake 6700K
Memory: CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170I PRO GAMING LGA 1151
PSU: CORSAIR SF Series SF600 600W
Case: SilverStone RAVEN RVZ02B
HD: 2x SAMSUNG V-NAND SSD 850 EVO
