Solid, inexpensive 1366 board

Pros: Good, well-designed board. Haven't had any real problems with it. Good performance with my Intel i7 920 (though I don't OC and have little basis for direct comparison).

Has two PCI-e x16 slots that are properly spaced (to allow room for larger GPU heatsinks); haven't tried CrossFire but I imagine the physical installation would be easy. Obviously not a board you'll put 3-4 GPUs on, but 1 or 2 graphics cards is enough for most people.

Good amount if I/O and SATA connectors.

LED diagnostic is a nice feature. Can be invaluable with otherwise hard-to-diagnose problems.

Looks good! (I just installed 6x2GB G.Skill DDR3-1600 RAM in it [got them from the 'Egg for $130, a steal as long as they keep working like they are], which has red heatsinks and looks great with the board's read/yellow/orange theme)

Cons: None so far, unless you count some slight quirkiness with RAM (see below).

Other Thoughts: When I first installed RAM on this board (I originally used some 3x2GB Patriot DDR3-1333), the board would beep at me and I couldn't get it to work. I eventually figured out (in some obscure FAQ or forum) that if you install only one set of RAM (i.e. 3 sticks and not 6), the board prefers to have them installed in slots 2, 4, and 6 (i.e. I think I left the slot nearest to the CPU empty then used every other slot: [CPU] | empty slot | RAM | empty slot | RAM | empty slot | RAM); intuitively I would tend to use slots 1, 3, 5 first (which is what I did, thus the problem), but if you keep this quirk in mind you should be fine.

When I upgraded my RAM recently, I just got 6 new sticks (instead of adding 3), since the price was good, they were faster than my original RAM (so I didn't want a speed discrepancy), and I figured it would be best to have it all be consistent for reasons of voltage, latency, and general stability. So far so good; all of the slots seem to work fine for now.

Fair board. Very bad Rebate

Pros: Cheap board for L1366 CPU. Lots of features, low price.

Cons: This board is picky on memory. Buy it all at once if using all 6 slots.

Other Thoughts: The mail in rebate puts you on a mailing list (ECS Marketing) and the unsubscribe link takes you to a login page where you don't have the password.

Dead Memory Slot

Pros: Cheap MB, no other issues.

Cons: One of the memory slots was dead. No matter how I swap the ram if any one stick of memory is installed in that slot. Memory test will fail.
Also Mail in rebate prevents being returned to Newegg.
2xESata ports 1 fewer inside. Esata not much use.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy from ECS if a mail in rebate is involved. It basically voids newegg's warrantee.

Manufacturer Response:
If you are unable to exchange this motherboard with Newegg we would have no issues with helping you get a working motherboard as quickly as possible.

One thing to check with your memory issues is to ensure they are receiving the correct voltage. You can verify the current memory voltages in the PC Health status section of the BIOS. You can adjust it in the M.I.B. section.

8 months later and still going strong

Pros: Rock solid 8 months running 24 x 7 - what more can I say?

Cons: Quirky E-SATA interface - does not always recognize attached drives

Other Thoughts: See my previous review ('Buy this board'). I have been running this board since November 2009 w/o significant issues. It has disappeared then reappeared at NewEgg and current price is $20 higher than I paid but it's still an excellent buy for those looking for a solid workhorse X58 board.

Follow up

Pros: Great layout, looks nice,2X crossfire x16 pcie slots, has pretty much everything you'll need. It's an x58...nuff said.

Cons: Price is 20 bucks higer now than when I bought it. Overclocking can be tricky. I don't consider this a con, but one should note that there is no floppy connector.

Other Thoughts: I finally figured out the overclocking on this board. Running ddr3 1600, I had to leave the default memory speed setting at 1066.(crucial ballistix) Then increasing the base clock, letting the memory have room to breath. It took some tweaking, but I'm running my 920 at 3.8ghz rock solid stable at ~44 C.

No Floppy Drive!!

Pros: The case has several options for PCIe and is perfect for your i7 core. The onboard soundcard is not too bad.

Once I got the operating system going, it ran well, except for cold starts.

Cons: Beware RAID builders! There is no floppy IDE connector. And that will bite you if you're going to actually use the onboard RAID 0/1/5. I'm told Vista and above might contain those necessary drivers, but I had to bend over backwards to build my own XP install CD.

Updating the BIOS and such will prove to be quite a task unless I can find a boot-capable USB drive stick.

The thing seems to be grounded somewhere it shouldn't be and therefore cuts out from a cold start for two seconds and then begins. And even then, if you're resetting the CMOS, it's a bit laggy and will restart the same amount of times to finally boot.

The BIOS is almost impossible to modify RAM clock speeds. I kept putting in the factory-made clock speeds on my RAM, and it would cut to black everytime, refusing to start. I have to leave it on auto, which could someday be a bad thing, but it seems to be doing fine, either way.

Other Thoughts: I work for a small radiology clinic building computers. I will go to ASUS and Intel boards from here on out.

Manufacturer Response:
That is correct, this motherboard does not have a floppy connection. You can find the specifications for this motherboard on the Newegg and ECS website.

Unfortunately a floppy is required to load RAID drivers for XP. You can use a USB floppy or you can easily combine drivers and the XP installation disk, using a third party software (please contact us for details).

If you would like directions on how to make a USB please contact us.

Decent for Price

Pros: It recognized all my hardware and peripherals right away. No need for a BIOS reflash. I am able to run my DDR3 1600 at the factory specified settings by OCZ.

Cons: Doesn't look like it will work too terribly well for overclocking, although it does have the basic CPU settings available for adjustment in the BIOS. The Northbridge heatsink was also not held on too well and wiggled a little bit, but it runs nice and cool and nothing overheats. Cooler to the touch than my MSI Platinum motherboard w. E8400 which has a larger heatpipe heatsking on the NBridge.

Other Thoughts: If it's on sale and can do what you need it to, get it!
