AMD StoreMI Technology

A powerful tool that combines the speed of your SSD with the capacity of your hard disk into a single, fast, easy-to-manage drive. SSDs are fast, but expensive, and offer minimal capacity. Mechanical hard drives boast large capacity for a low price, but are much slower than an SSD. AMD StoreMI technology "combines" these two types of storage into a single drive and automatically moves the data you access the most to the SSD, so you get the best of both worlds: SSD responsiveness, and mechanical hard disk capacity. You can also use up to 2GB of RAM as a last-level cache for ultra-fast data.

Good board for the price

Pros: Easy to set up and work with. Adequate headers. Feels solid.

Cons: Could have beefier vrm heatsinks, but at this price it's hard to complain.

Other Thoughts: Sure there are some features that could be better such as vrm heatsinks and the bios is a little iffy comparted to high end asus or msi boards. But when you consider the price-point of this board it's actually quite great. Have had no issues with it.

Terrible Motherboard.

Pros: It turns on.

Cons: First off I bought 3200Mhz G.Skill ram to go along with motherboard.
Couldn't get ram to run past default 2133Mhz without crashing.
Used Ubuntu for operating system and every time the computer went to sleep it never turned back on.
Plus random memory crashes constantly.

Other Thoughts: I recommend buying higher end motherboard, I ended up buying a ASUS ROG STRIX X470-F and I couldn't be happier. It works perfectly running ram at 3200Mhz, and has yet to crash after over a week of constant use. Avoid this ASRock B450M It's 50$ promo price for a reason it's trash.

Smooth Operation So Far

Pros: Worked right out of the box. It came with BIOS version 1.6, so I didn't have to upgrade the BIOS. It has plenty of USB ports for connecting peripherals and even has a Type-C Gen2 USB port, which is uncommon on motherboards in this price range.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I installed the ASRock B450M Pro4 motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 2600, 8GB of RAM (two Patriot Viper 4GB sticks), an Intel 760p 256GB M.2 NMVe drive and my old Radeon 7870 video card. The board recognized everything and since it came with BIOS version 1.6, I didn't have to update the BIOS to get XMP to work. When I activated XMP, it recognized the correct speed and timings of the RAM. After five weeks of operation, everything runs smoothly. I've used ASRock boards before and have had no problem with them (in fact, the board I replaced with the B450M was an ASRock I bought seven years ago).

Good motherboard with neutral colours - it DOES have rgb control built-in

Pros: -affordable
-it works
-didn't break apart upon using it
-has cooling on the vrm's
-has two spots for rgb lighting control built-in, allowing for greater flexibility as to how you're going to light up your system.

Cons: 1. I wish the I/O shield was nicer:
-With the last budget motherboard I got, it had nice colourful designs on the back clearly labeling all of the ports. It was nice and it made the pc in the end look more professional and cool. I'm sure including nicer I/O shields wouldn't be THAT expensive.

2.The instructions in the manual weren't very clear. This is my 4th pc build, so I knew what to do, but this was also my first AMD build. so there were some quirks I was unaware of:
-The front panel header apparently uses the intel standard. I was confused as to why an amd motherboard would be using an intel standard for anything, but that wasn't the issue. The issue was the manual never clarified that, fortunately I figured that out on my own and just plugged it in and it worked. Would've liked better instructions, still.
-Instructions weren't clear about whether the "amd fan led" header was rgb or not. Turns out it is. There's two ports and if you have some sort of splitter that gives you a lot of options. It would've been nice to know any of that ahead of time, but the instructions make that unclear.
-The motherboard's non-xmp ram support pamphlet is confusing and doesn't really clarify anything. I could look it up and figure that out but that would defeat the purpose of having a pamphlet explaining that in the first place.
-This is a budget build, and budget builds are where people start off with building their own PCs. So it's a really strange move overall to have worse instructions on more budget boards and better instructions on more high-end boards. Be clear. Explain. Because building a pc while uninformed can lead to damaged parts and even this is "budget" it still isn't exactly cheap, either.

3. This isn't a complaint specific to this motherboard. But I wish motherboards in general came with a way to hold coolers securely in place before tightening up any screws. Specially because you're usually using thermal paste, and that can lead to the cooler sliding around during installation. Cooler installation is ALWAYS the most needlessly finicky part of the whole building process, and that could be mitigated somehow if there was a way to keep it in place after thermal paste application. Thermal paste isn't the problem, the fact there's no way to secure a cooler in place is.

4. The bios isn't that great.

Other Thoughts: -It works and the components are solid
-I would recommend this motherboard to someone who either A. has experience building pc's and is looking to make a budget build for themself, B. is looking for a budget build and is paying someone to build it for them or C. is willing to do the research online and is also willing to take a risk for a budget build.

Decent board if bought on sale and you don't care about using PS2 port or both M2 slots.

Pros: Once you get it working and perform a BIOS update, it's been reliable.

Cons: Ran into problems with the PS2 port, navigating the BIOS, detection of M2 drive in primary slot. Had to do an RMA right off the bat.

Other Thoughts: This is a budget board and that's what I was looking for. I'm not doing anything serious or heavy gaming with this computer. I just built it to replace a computer I use daily in the house. It does what I need it to and after having it running non-stop for 4 months in a row, I can say it's been reliable enough. Hopefully it'll stay that way. I used a Ryzen 5 2400G, Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR4 2400, WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB WDS500G2B0B.

Now, before I go on with my explanation of problems, a lot of people post negative reviews and you don't know if it's truly a problem with the hardware or if the person building the PC from components knows what they're doing. So I'm not a person who builds PCs for a living and I don't try to overclock my equipment ever, but I have been building PC's since 1995 and I work in the IT field occasionally dealing with desktop hardware issues. I have a custom built server and 5 custom built PC's in the house. At least that gives you an idea that I'm not an amateur.

If I had to do it over again knowing about the problems I would experience, I'd have picked another board. Got the board for $65 CDN after MIR. It arrived and after building it,I immediately had problems. The board wouldn't boot with this M2 drive in slot #1. It would boot with it in slot #2 though. Once it booted, I realized I could not navigate the BIOS. I tried PS2 keyboards and USB keyboards. I think I tried about 6 keyboards without luck, even tried wireless ones. I went on to install Win 10 Pro and at least a USB keyboard would work there. Once loaded, I immediately loaded BIOS upgrade 1.60. Then I tried to access the BIOS again. Same deal. That's when I tried to do an RMA.

I was in a rush because I wanted the situation dealt with before going on vacation, and the timeline you get from ASRock to deal with their mail in rebates leaves no room for dealing with problems. I had problems contacting someone at NewEgg to deal with the RMA as well. I tried doing chat, but I spent two nights waiting in a queue of 27-28 people. It was taking a while, so I left my PC and came back that I missed my opportunity so got put to the back of the queue again. After the second night of that happening, I called in and spoke to someone. They weren't sure how the mail in rebate would work with an RMA'd board and the time you have to send in the form, but they went to ask someone and told me I'd fill out a new rebate based on the new board's serial number, etc. It was quite the hassle. So while I had quite the issues with the board itself, the support also came with quite a few issues.

When I got the new board, I found similar issues. No matter what, I can't get the PS2 port to work. I can use a USB keyboard in the BIOS, but I won't likely need the PS2 port anyways, so I'll just live without that and cross my fingers that other problems don't pop up. I honestly don't remember if I had the same problems with the M2 slot #1 ont he new board because it's been 4 months now. Other than that, it's been stable.

So overall, my recommendation is to avoid this board unless you get it for cheap and don't need to use a PS2 port or have a requirement to run 2x M2 SSD's.

Great Features for the Price

Pros: Pleasantly surprised with the features the board offers. Installation and setup was easy. Board shipped with bios v. 1.60. 4 ram and dual M.2 slots are nice additions on a board at this price point. Ryzen 5 2400G works flawlessly and makes for a surprisingly effective entry level gaming setup. The included game (the division 2) does run on the iGPU at playable framerates at 1080p with settings turned down. Other older, less demanding titles in the steam library (TF2, Borderlands etc.) run very well even with settings turned up.

Cons: Ram slots only have a clip on one side.
Rear panel I/O shield is made from thin material.
Minus 1 egg for slow shipping (in stock, ordered 02/22 arrived 03/08). Paid for shipping that exceeded the advertised shipping time of 4-7 business days. Other parts of the build were ordered elsewhere with free next day shipping.

Other Thoughts: Great board for the money. Windows installation was a breeze and everything is running smooth and stable.
