AMD LiquidVR Technology

LiquidVR is an AMD initiative dedicated to making VR as comfortable and realistic as possible by creating and maintaining what’s known as “presence” — a state of immersive awareness where situations, objects, or characters within the virtual world seem “real.” Guided by close collaboration with key technology partners in the ecosystem, LiquidVR uses AMD’s GPU software and hardware sub-systems to tackle the common issues and pitfalls of achieving presence, such as reducing motion-to-photon latency to less than 10 milliseconds. This is a crucial step in addressing the common discomforts, such as motion sickness, that may occur when you turn your head in a virtual world and it takes even a few milliseconds too long for a new perspective to be shown.

DirectX 12 Support

DirectX 12 is a new, “console-like” graphics API from Microsoft that empowers game developers with more direct and obvious control of PC hardware. This direct or “explicit” control better exposes the hardware resources of AMD Radeon GPUs to yield higher hardware throughput and, ultimately, more performance for users. To put it simply: much more efficient hardware through smarter software! At the discretion of a game developer, this superior efficiency can be spent on higher framerates, lower latency (VR), lower power consumption, better image quality, or some calculated balance of all four. In any scenario, gamers stand to benefit greatly from choosing AMD hardware to run their favorite DirectX 12 game.

AMD Eyefinity Technology

Multidisplay technology for gaming, productivity and entertainment

AMD Eyefinity technology expands the traditional limits of desktop computing by multiplying your screen area. With multiple monitors, games become more immersive, workstations become more useful and you become more productive (an average of 42% more productive according to one study).

Take your PC games to the next level of reality and immersion. Most modern games look great on three screens, and only AMD Radeon graphics offer you the ability to play across five screens for an eye-popping gaming experience. Other combinations and configurations with up to six screens work too. Create your dream display.

Two-ball Bearing

Dual ball bearings on the fan spindles ensure smooth running and long life and are designed to keep out dust. A quiet cooling solution, Two ball-bearing fan features a high-efficiency blade design.

Intelligent Fan Control

Traditional graphic cards cooling solutions mainly focus on keeping GPU at lower operation temperature while balance acoustic for end users to enjoy a quieter gaming experience. At Sapphire, the experienced thermal experts always fine tuning the fan control table for each graphic card they designed.

With more and more transistors and integration of High bandwidth memory (HBM), Sapphire introduces an even more intelligent scheme to monitor and dynamically adjust the fan speeds. This so called IFC (Intelligent Fan Control) not only limited to cooling GPU cores but also inputs from HBM, Power control logics (like MOSFETS). With integrated SMU, there is a smart algorithm to received temperature reading from multiple inputs, i.e., multiple GPUs power cores, external Bridge control logics, voltage regulator MOSFETs. It will also take the current application loading, environment temperature into consideration.

The benefit of this new intelligent fan control methodology is users can always expect the best performance, quieter environment based on whole graphics systems without need to worry about the manual fan table adjustments.

The R9 Fury is a beast of a card, and for a good price

Pros: So far, I am impressed with the R9 Fury. I have been messing with benchmarks through MSi Kombustor, got anywhere between 80-200+FPS. So far I've also played a couple of games on max quality settings; Overwatch for example, I get a solid 50-60 FPS (I'm sure it would be higher, but my other hardware is a little bit of a bottleneck). The new HBM memory is different to me, but it is quite fast and I know it has potential. The card idles at 38-42 degrees Celsius, and when idle, the fans shut off completely, making this card basically silent when not under load.

Cons: The only major things that concern me are these two things: one of them regarding temperature, and the other being coil whine. When I am running games (i.e. Assassins Creed III, Overwatch, Rainbow 6 Siege, etc) the temperature climbs faster than my liking; within a few minutes of opening a game, the temperature goes from 42 degrees Celsius to the upper 60s and 70s Celsius. I have the temp limit set to 75, and it throttles a little bit in the upper 60s, which is expected. Once I close the game, though, the temperature gradually makes its way back down to its idle 42 degrees C. ~ As for the coil whine; I haven't really had too many problems with coil whine, but when the card is under heavy load (i.e. Benchmarking certain tasks at a 4K, even 1080p resolution) it tends to give off a low pitch coil whine, which is an odd sound, but I've heard the sound from review videos online. What is also strange is that it varies from fury to fury. Some cards whine under mid tier load, and some make no whine at all, regardless of the load. Coil whine isn't a huge problem to me, but is still notable.

Other Thoughts: I've seen other reviews and I've seen the benchmarks online, so I know the potential this card has. I may have to make various tweaks and adjustments before I notice peak performance. I don't know why my particular card I got gets as hot as it does; it could be as simple as the thermal compound on the gpu may need refreshed, given the fact that sometimes there is a bad batch of compound. Either way, this card is exceptional, and I would recommend the R9 Fury. If you're looking for a Radeon, look no further.

Great video card

Pros: - Performs great. Over 144 fps in lighter titles like league of legends and overwatch, and over 60fps in games like witcher 3.
- Looks awesome with the huge 3 fan design and extra heatsink.
- Cools very well despite my case having awful airflow.
- Still kicking a year later and runs like the day I got it.

Cons: - Draws a ton of power
- 4GB Vram makes it so that I cannot reliably run lighter games with supersampling turned on, but this isn't that big of a deal

Big upgrade, best bang for my buck

Pros: Bought this to upgrade from Gtx970. price was unbeatable, dx12 performance puts this on par with 980ti and Gtx 1070. Mine is quiet, cool and runs everything with Vsr at high or max settings. Within a few percent of Fury X speeds for a lower price point. I overclocked the rough 5% difference with no issues. Runs cool, looks great with the three fans and backplate. Best card I have ever owned.

Cons: Support for dx12 or Vulcan reliant to still be a top tier card, I have read about coil wind under load, which I have had no issue with mind you, card is huge. Very very big card runs nearly the whole length of my case. Huge power draw compared to other cards.

Other Thoughts: This card is an unbeatable deal, one of the top cards from amd to this day, my suggested buy even over rx480. at 239.99 this is very hard to beat. I would not suggest a Fury X over this due to price and just how close they perform.

Its a good pixel pusher but...

Pros: It renders everything at very high or ultra settings...

Cons: After having this card for little over a year some problems have started becoming more and more apparent.
When the fans are at low RPM's it will make an awful whining sound, after further examination i noticed that the actual fans on the card are wobbling. the entire card is shaking in my motherboard, but only at low RPM's.

Once it is at or above 50% the wobble stops and the sound is replaced with the infamous hair dryer blower sound...
Honestly if you're looking into getting an R9 Fury because the Vega is too expensive and too hard to find. Just get a reference card. The extra cooling on this is nice but not worth the trouble of the whole card shaking off your board.

Other Thoughts: Needs more VRAM for extra textures... It really puts the GPU at a disadvantage with the 4Gb. I think if it had double the RAM this thing would be unstoppable.

Amazing Graphics Card

Pros: Runs every game I own at 60 FPS (or more) With settings maxed

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: No real point writing this review as it is discontinued but if you find one used cheap buy it.

Great... Until it breaks.

Pros: - Excellent Price/Performance
- Most pre-2015 year old games can be played at a full 60FPS on max settings with a 4K resolution
- Some resolution downscaling will be needed for more recent games at 4K unless you can tolerate sub 60fps
- Freesync does help with the framedips if you do have a compatible monitor
- More AMD general: Haven't used an AMD card since the 5770; software side is pleasant even on Linux. Only gotcha is that DP/HDMI audio won't work on mainline kernels for now. (Someone has nicely packaged the AMD kernels for Debian and Fedora so I'm content)

Cons: - Noticeable coil whine, it's easily the loudest component in my system unless my CPU fan (NH-D15) is running at full speed. It's still tolerable even without headphones however.
- After ~6 months the card has an issue of randomly freezing (not just during games but also when it's at rest) requiring a reboot.
- Support isn't just horrible, it is NON-EXISTENT. I haven't gotten any form of response to my ticket.

Other Thoughts: Probably irrelevant now since this card is now obsolete; but the thing you should take away from this is to not buy Sapphire period. As good a value as this card is I'm not going to pay hundreds for a product with no support.

Was a good deal at the time

Pros: Performance for the price.

Cons: Lasted 6 months.

Other Thoughts: I bought two for xfire, my other card is still going. Should have stuck with nvidia.

Awesome Card!

Pros: Card worked great right out of the box
Nice and quiet
Haven't found a game yet that this card doesn't smash!

Cons: HUGE, like i mean, its absolutely huge!!! Not really a con, but for some people this may be an issue. I have an NZXT H440 case and this bad boy fit no problem.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for an upgrade this card is worth a look at!
