Pros: Still working great and fast.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I've had this unit for 4 years and am still using it in my daily computer which is my programming machine. It handles the data (HUGE PROJECT) with breeze.
Pros: It has worked fine and seems fairly quick since I bought it in November of 2008...
Cons:
As of this week in February of 2011, It is starting to fail. I noticed I was having some odd problems (for example freezes or long pauses when I would copy or delete a small word file) and random blue screens in Windows 7. I started testing components and sure enough the hard drive is starting to fail. I ordered a new one from a different manufacturer this week. :)
I am not sure what is considered a "good" lifespan on a hard drive but I was hoping for at least 3 years... even with heavy use.
Hitachi "Death" Star?
Other Thoughts: This has been heavily used in my opinion. I download large files and move a music collection around quite a bit. I do let Windows index my drive and have put several operating systems/format/reformat cycles on this thing. Still, I would like a drive that would last for 5 years... Are my expectations to high...
Pros: Bought 2 for a RAID 0 to use as working drive on my video editing workstation. Worked just fine for a couple of months.
Cons: Maybe it was the drives, maybe it was a somewhat buggy RAID chipset, but these two drives did not like working together for very long. I will not likely buy Hitachi drives again. WD, Maxtor, and Seagate have all done much better for me.
Other Thoughts: I'm not super-experienced with building a reliable RAID array, so maybe I'm feeling some consequence of building this one wrong. Still, my experience with other HDD manufacturers has been much more favorable in single disk applications.
Pros: Cheap, decent size.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Can you really not afford the 40 extra bucks on a larger drive (1TB)? For me, that one particular day..no..but it's worth the money nonetheless
Pros: Nice size, nice price all around nice as soon as you get it set up.
Cons: Kind of a weird hook up but got it figured out with out too much trouble.
Pros: none
Cons: brand new build. when windows starting copying files this thing went crazy. it was clicking and knocking very loud and finally freezed the whole installation. i have to rma.
Other Thoughts: i had an hitachi hardrive go bad before in an original xbox. avoid hitachi like the plague.
Pros: Gets the job done perfectly as my slave drive in vista. I just need it for extra space. Good price too.
Cons: MAKE SURE YOU GO UNDER VISTA DRIVE MANAGER AND FORMAT IT FIRST FOR IT TO BE RECOGNIZED AS A USABLE DRIVE. {if you didn't already know}
