Pros: A higher quality Seagate without a higher price. No waiting around while hard drive heads move pointlessly; and, that's a huge difference. Slightly less likely to fail; and, that certainly does help. As for hard drives, the Samsung product routinely takes first or second place. Let's just call it a non-confusing fairly good idea. You won't have to work hard on the research to get the best that Seagate can make, mainly because Samsung directed them to do that.
Cons: I just don't know if an RE4 is better or not. But, that's not really a con.
Other Thoughts: If you need one now, you're on the right page.
Pros: It's a hard drive, what do you want, it works fine. For 5-6 years.
Cons: None.
Pros: Owned as my main drive since 2009, and has given me all of zero problems so far. Extremely reliable, Decent speeds for an aging drive that has been 60-90% full for that entire time period..
Cons: Isn't an SSD? Really I have no legitimate qualms.
Other Thoughts: Will likely be upgrading to a SSD with the constantly dropping prices I'm seeing. Until then I feel confident that this drive will continue to perform as reliably as it has
Pros: Bought in 2009, still works in 2015 - used daily with 2% available capacity as main disk on a desktop computer.
Cons:
Directories showing 1000+ files can be slow to load in Windows8.x and Windows 10. Not sure if fault of Windows or disk...
Have experienced some file date corruption once in the first year...
Other Thoughts: Have been lucky with all disks from most brands, except WD Velociraptor where 3-4 disks failed every 6 months - in the end I gave up returning disks on the warranty.
Pros:
Purchased this HDD in 2008 for $100.
I'm a heavy gamer and at one point most likely used this HDD as a primary disc. The past few years it has been used as my main storage device, with 70-90% capacity filled up. It' still running strong today. Has been moved between several PC builds, and have had zero issues with it so far.
This alone has me questioning my choice of a different brand while looking for more space.
Cons: None.
Pros: I have read a lot of reviews about this drive over the last few years that say it fails early. Most of these reviews are based on regarding the drive as failed once it fails diagnostics tests, not actual experiencing a failure. I have one of these drives and it has been performing flawlessly for years. When I run diagnostics on this drive, sometimes the software won't even recognize the drive. On some it fails SMART, others it's a pass. On some it sees bad sectors, while Windows detects none. And the results vary based on what operating system I am testing with and what diagnostic tool I am using, none of the results agree. But one thing agrees. The performance. Read/write, excellent. Response time, excellent. Writing to it, erasing and writing again, over and over. Everything is actually operating the same as ever. No corruption in transfers, no actual data problems. I can store as much as the capacity was originally. I have tested this drive in W7, XP and W8.1, file transfers galore. Wiped it completely out, reformatted differently, wrote to zeroes and started over, basically twisted it every way I could think of. Bottom line, it has not actually failed in any way. It's as fast as it was day one, behaves exactly the same but now for some reason it won't pass an hdd drive diagnostics softare, or maybe it will, if I put the drive in another box. So what is my conclusion? I have none. I am going to keep hammering on this HDD until it actually fails. So far it's been a long test. I think that it has something to do with this drives reporting of SMART. There isn't actually anything wrong with the drive at all, it's reporting in error. If I ever blow this drive up, I'll let you know.
Cons: doesn't pass dianostics
Other Thoughts: spunky drive
Pros: 5+ years for near 24/7 operation;
Cons: None

Pros: Fast 1TB HDD when it was bought. No errors and it is a quiet drive.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Still working after all this time. Installed in a Shuttle XPC barebone for Movies.
